i think im editing video's ''professionally'' for 8/10 years now, but i never really made alot of use of the most shortcuts. well, the ''side'' stuff, like match frame in source viewer and the tool selectors. but like trimming, never. always the mouse.

i think im quite fast, but just out of curiousity im trying some stuff out now., but i cant really get used to some of the default shortcuts in resolve (edit page). some keys are just too far apart for my taste. I guess i can personalize them. but im just curious, are there people out here who swear to a specific setup ? (like the default avid/premiere/final cut keyboard shortcuts)

Completely custom key assignments here (for both the Edit and Fairlight pages), as many of the default Resolve shortcuts aren't logical nor necessarily grouped in to clear sectors of the keyboard.

J, K, and L are about the only unchanged default key bindings, all other functionality has been assigned a custom key binding (including wide use of the Control key which Resolve doesn't assign to functions).

This also ensured a much smoother transition to incorporating Resolve in to a specific workflow by assigning my main workstation's key bindings to equivalent functionality within Resolve - along with assigning specific keys around the same sector of the keyboard for related editing functionality.

Mouse editing is much too slow and inefficient, so a logical key binding layout is essential for flexible editing workflows.

It felt a little unlogical to me too, but on the other hand, it must be designed by editors for editors right? they must have thought about it.. in some way.
im quite interested your configuration, is there an easy way to exchange them?

Not necessarily.. keep in mind that Resolve started as a color program, so it probably inherited some ideas and shortcuts from that time. Also, it is so hard to have one set of keyboard shortcuts that works for every single user, as what seems logical to someone might not be that logical to another.

Even an all-out NLE like Premiere has some shortcuts that didn't feel logical to me. I have been using it for about four years now. Initially, I used the FCP7 shortcuts as this is what I have migrated from. But I then started borrowing from Premiere's own shortcuts and then tweaking them with my custom ones, until I reached a set that I am comfortable with.

I would suggest you do the same with Resolve. Try out their shortcuts, figure out what works and what doesn't work for you, and then change the things you don't like.

In case you use third party hardware (like a ShuttlePro or a mouse with many side keys like I do) you need to change the layout anyways to make it all work in a convenient way, so don't feel obliged to use the given layout.
Just remember to backup your settings from time to time. It's a major PITA to set like 40 shortcut keys a second time...(like I did)
