Hardware upgrade and optimized setting recommendations

Hey guys

I recently installed the free version of Resolve 15 and I'm extremely keen to get started learning but unfortunately my computer isn't yet fully allowing me.

I have a Lenovo E51-80 laptop with an Intel(R) Core(TM) 15-6200U CPU @2.30GHz 2.40GHz processor, a 64-bit operating system running Windows 10, 8GB DDR Ram, 500GB Solid State Drive and an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 GPU.

I don't get realtime video playback with this, no matter what setting changes I try to make and the program crashes when I try to generate optimized media.

I intend on upgrading to 16GB RAM. Please advise if this is the next best thing for me to do, what else I can do in terms of optimized settings to be able to edit 4K footage and if it's going to be necessary to upgrade the GPU? I obviously want to move forward as cost-effectively as possible.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Francois

Sorry to bring bad news, but that machine can't run Resolve. The GPU is too weak and it can't be upgraded.

To run Resolve on a laptop at all, you need a serious gaming machine, a desktop would be the better choice.
