Media Offline for Sony MXF files

PostThu Aug 16, 2018 9:07 pm

Dear experts.

Just installed DaVinci Resolve 15 and I must congratulate you on this release.
Our workflow up to now has been Adobe Premiere and Speedgrade.

We are now looking into adapting BM DaVinci Resolve as our main tool and we are using Sony PXW FS5 Mark II as our go to camera. Normally we shoot in XAVC Long HD

However, when we try to import the .MXF file we get no media to show in the program, only the error message "Media Offline" as shown in this image

Project Setting is set to 1920x1080 HD and the file info is as shown in this image.

We have tried to change from Cuda to OpenCL without any different results. All other clips such .mov and .mp4 both import normally. On this computer we are running Windows 10 and GTX 770 with version 3.0 Kepler, so it should be supported.

What can we do to fix this before buying the full version?

Best regards

AFAIK, Sony's clips are accepted only in the Studio version on PC. MacOS reads them in the free one.

But I promise you won't regret switching, Speedgrade is not really fun.

The GPU might be a bit limiting if you intend to work in 4K, though (even if it's the 4 GB model).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Hi..

After reading up on the topic online we have found and tested that rolling back to version 14 actually did fix the issue. We are now able to see the Sony clips as is.

We are primary using the beta to test our workflow and if it is adaptable which I hope and think, we will of course considering moving to this platform. But it is not as easy as just buying the studio software version. It cost to teach staff to use it etc. But after looking at version 14 last night, I find it to be pretty much as read about and viewed online. Workflow and especially grading is way better and I love that you can adapt user interface for Adobe Premiere keyboard etc.

This GPU or CPU on this machine is not a factor for our workflow as it is not in our production line. This is just a test machine in this case.

I would say thank you for your effort to help..

Also want to provide a feedback to BM. When it comes to sales, our experience after this short test is that you might want to allow for pre-purchase testing for all formats. That way companies can test if the software is suitable for adoption and avoid spending days or hours investigating and asking for support before purchase.

Have a nice day.

Best regards

I have the same problem here. iMac Pro High Siera. Sony fs5 mk2 clips work fine on Davinci Resolve 14 but show as offline in Resolve 15. Also tried with both versions installed (to see if a codec or something from 14 was missing) but still didn't worked on Resolve 15.

Any codec or feature missing from 15 ? Maybe the folder structure has to do with it. Any plans Blackmagic could fix this in the next release?

Can you upload a short clip to test if it happens on all systems?

I have the same problem since 15_2:
(on Dropbox I have a file, but I can't post a link)

I wrote to Dwaine Maggart and got this answer:

"Your file works on Resolve 15 Studio.
It does not work on free Resolve 15.
But it does work with free Resolve 14.3.
So it appears we've taken a step backwards here.
I've alerted the dev team to the situation, and hopefully it's something that can be addressed in the next update."

I hope it will work soon on free Resolve 15

Plays just fine here, but only in the Studio version.
