Having issues opening projects on a new PC and hard drive

PostFri Aug 17, 2018 2:29 am

Hello everyone,

I've been using version 12.5.0.052 of DaVinci Resolve. Recently, my PC encountered a few problems and crashed on me, so I now have a new PC, and have put the hard drive from my old PC, D:, into this new one, along with another hard drive, C:.

My intent was to go through D:, find all of my footage, sound, images, and other editing files, transfer it to the hard drive C: , and do the same for Resolve's project files, so I could just open up the project file on my new computer with my new hard drive and edit as normal. However, this has turned out to be a lot more difficult than I thought.

I transferred my footage over just fine, but I'm having trouble finding a way to open my project files on my new PC. I've been looking into this process a bit before asking, and I never archived any of my projects and never really set a destination for my projects to be saved to, I just used whatever it defaulted to, which was my mistake.

I've installed the exact version of Resolve that I used on my old computer on my new one, as I still have the installer, and I opened the project manager and have been trying to import project files into the project manager, as the manual instructed. But I have no idea where to look. I found the "Support" folder by searching for it in the folders Blackmagic Design>DaVinci Resolve , and in support I managed to find folders with the name of my projects from my old PC, but there are no project files that can be imported from them.

I'm sorry if I'm doing a poor job at describing the steps I've taken to try to fix this problem, but I'm really at a loss here, and I'm wondering if there's any way for me to solve this problem. I know that Resolve uses a database system; shouldn't I be able to find the actual project files that I had before, considering that I have the original hard drive that the database was set up on?

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me with this problem, and I really hope that these projects aren't just completely lost. Thank you very much for reading!
