R15 beachballsl when relinking media after XML import

PostFri Aug 17, 2018 3:35 pm

Import FCPX XML
media is online, a couple TLs 4-5 min long maybe 150 clips per TL, a few hundred total in project
after XML imports, and R starts to do its thing, it simply beachballs.

at first I thought is was a hang of some sort. I left it for a good 2 min. then I opened iStat. R was using 27% of one core steadily. looked at disk activity for volume media was stored on. constant bursts of 25mb/sec reads. clearly something was going on.

I left R to run for a good 10 or maybe 15 min and it finally completed, all was well.

So, whatever it was busy doing - maybe generating audio waveforms, inspecting the media, whatever a Progress Bar is in order to let the user know the app isn't in a hang state.

I agree: there are a few operations Resolve does where a "gas gauge" progress bar would be a lot more reassuring to see instead of just a spinning beach ball. At least on Mac, you can consult the "Force Quit" menu and see if the dreaded "DaVinci Resolve Has Stopped Responding" message happens. If not, be patient.

Another "no progress bar" situation happens with Project Database file copying & moving, which is a bit of a nail biter. I would still love and see drag-and-drop moving from one project to a different database, which we don't have (yet).
