I have resolve 15.01 I have been having this problem sense I started using resolve. I put my pictures into the timeline. So I now have a row of pictures in the timeline. One of them is to long or short. Just one. I try to use the mouse and change the time. It cuts into other pictures time or leaves a space. It leaves the movies duration at the same. I would like to see the timeline move with the time not stay the same and change other pictures.

please Help

Lengthening Video

We have been using devinci resolve 15.0.1 and cannot seem to find the tool that allows us to lengthen the video as a whole. We are able to lengthen a certain picture, but by lengthening that picture it only shortens the one next to it. We were wondering if there was a setting that allows the video to be lengthened as a whole rather than just a single picture at a time. Another way to describe this problem is we have a series of photos and one of them is too short or too long we try to shorten it, it leaves a gap, and if we lengthen it, it cuts into the photo next to it rather then lengthening the entire video.

Don't think about it, argue with it, or make excuses against it.

Just...read it.

Amazing. Someone says buy a book and can’t explain a simple task on a simple program. Time to change programs. Will not recommend.

You need to be in trim mode for ripple trimming, you are in normal mode which will leave a gap. Checkout the tool icons in the edit page tool bar. Hover over to see what they do.

When you say your "pictures", what specific format are you using? Editing techniques have to change slightly depending on whether you're using still frames, camera original files, or a flattened file.

There are good tutorials all over the net on how to edit with Resolve. Pages 320-551 in the manual go over it well. MixingLight has a good free 5-hour tutorial you can download at no charge, and it goes over a lot of the basics; Ripple Training has a tutorial just on editing (albeit for Resolve 14, which is extremely similar) that covers the same ground.

It is a simple task, but Resolve is hardly a simple program. If you're getting tripped up on such simple tasks, it's because you haven't yet learned the basics.

That's a first step for any software of this complexity.

If you want the change the time of selected clips (video or picture ) select one or more clips, right click and select 'Change clip duration...', then optionally go to the Edit menu and select 'Delete gaps'.
