Is is just me or is DR15.0.1 public very buggy?

PostTue Sep 11, 2018 2:02 am

I've been using DR15.0.1 to edit a multi-camera shoot and it has been crashing left and right. My usual experience with the product has been much better in the past. Is it only me?

I was pretty stunned by this sudden "release" - I would rather say re-lable.

So far I wasn't able to make even the simplest project without running into 10 different bugs that pretty much break the whole video.

Right now I tried to export a simple 2 minutes MTS clip, no audio, just a very simple grade and nothing else.
1.) Resolve wouldn't start, it ran in background but never showed up
2.) I was unable to play the media
3.) Proxy mode didn't work
4.) After generating optimized media I was able to play the clip at 2 FPS and make a very simple grade
5.) Export is stuck at 83%, GPU usage went to zero, CPU is still 50% busy, for over 30minutes now (after almost 90 minutes of exporting)

This is every project now. Loading some beta projects those are completely broken and need to be rebuild, some customer revision, just a date correction in a title, cost us 20h of unpayed work.

Very often on export there's suddenly the proxy version of a single clip in the final file (half- or quarter resolution), but only of some clips, not all.

Very often I cannot insert media into timeline without arming it, bug is known since 2014, but wasn't as bad in the betas.

Performance is random depending on source files.

Copy & Paste work random, clips paste into random positions and tracks, creating a mess in conjunction with ripple editing.

Could go on for another hour probably. I'm really disappointed and also afraid, spent a fair bit of money on the Studio version, I was about to buy some BM hardware (glad I didn't), but even worse hundreds of hours training. Not sure where this is supposed to go.

Sounds like the Resolve software team needs to implement a reliable set of unit tests.

It is very buggy. I hope BMD doesn't feel the need to add major features to the next release and focuses on stability and usability. This is the worst release I've seen of Resolve. I've never experienced issues like this from a "official release" version of a software. There are a lot of bugs that were reported during beta testing that still exist. Absolutely terrible. I don't understand why software companies feel a need to release software prematurely to meet some arbitrary deadline that really means nothing. there doesn't seem to be an understanding that users prefer stable software over anything else when they use that software for work.

If BM does it correctly, using unit testing can greatly improve the stability of software even if there are major changes made.

I'm seeing silly simple things breaking, like scrolling the timeline, adding a sound file to the timeline, moving a clip in the timeline. There should be unit tests for all this functionality, they should know they are broken before even thinking about releasing the software.

I did start having some oddball issues in 15.0.1 that didn't present in 15.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
