DaVinci Resolve 15.1 Studio does not work on my macbook pro. It freezes at the splash screen.
Looking for control surfaces, and then it freezes.

MacOS 10.12.6
macbook pro 15 inch 2016
2,9 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB

DaVinci Resolve 15.0.1 Studio work fine.

Intel graphics is typically the problem.

Hi, I've just updated to DaVinci Resolve 15.1 Studio. I now also have the same problem:
"It freezes at the splash screen. Looking for control surfaces"

To get back to a working version, I've restored Version 15.

Any suggestions and solutions for running 15.1?

System config:
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Startup disk: LaCie SSD
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1 GB

The same for me. I'm not able to start the program after updating to 15.1.
It did work fine with previews programs...

System config:
Radeon Software Edition - Crimson ReLive
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Memory Size - 4096 MB
Memory Type - GDDR5
Core Clock - 1040 MHz
Windows Version - Windows 10 (64 bit)
System Memory - 16 GB
CPU Type - Processor AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor, 4000 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Any update on the 15.1 control surface freeze fix. I'm having the same problem. Also, on the black magic raw viewer, I can't see the clip the image is black but i can hear the audio. any thoughts ?

Hi! I have the freeze on splash screen. I didn't install the Resolve 15.1 before the 15.1.024 was out, but still i have the same problems.
Tried to edit the .config.data according a user's fix in another thread, but that didn't help either.

Yup.. Same here - getting stuck at "Looking For Controll Surface" - would be AMAZING if this would work monday morning CET...

No change: Hangs on start ("looking for control surface").

Davinci Resolve 15.1 (non Studio). Stuck on my MacBook Pro, 15.0.1 worked well, as 14.3.1 did.

There is a bug that causes issues when you set your GPU processing to OpenCL that affects Mac OS.

Please do the following:
Go to
/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve
open config.dat in TextEdit
delete the line: Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL
save the file, and try launching Resolve again.

Same Problem stuck on control surface splash screen on windows 10 pro

Those of you having the "stuck on splash screen" problem, have you tried this?
Uninstall program, then, when re-installing, uncheck "Install control panels" or words to that effect. That worked for me.

Yes. I tried that yesterday (9-16-18) and it did not work for me. It hung even though I unchecked control surface.

I am experiencing the same hanging splash screen. Had no troubles until this version and had to return to 15.0.

I tried that, still getting stuck on the "Looking for control surfaces" screen.

i just did a clean install of windows 10, installed the new resolve, i even put in a new graphics card (1080ti) still nothing.. pfff

kinda tired of it, since its not the first time, by far

Just chiming in as another user who is having this same problem on Windows 10. I've tried the various remedies offered in the forum and none have worked.

Does anyone know how to get the prior version of 15.0? If so, I would be willing to uninstall 15.1 and go back to 15.0.

I restored Version 15.0 from a 'Time Machine' backup and all seems to be working well again.

Happy to report that since today's (Monday, September 17) revision to the update, Resolve now opens!

Starts up now with latest version 15.1.0.025 on macOS 10.12.6...

Where can I download the latest 15.1.0.025 version?

As usual from the support site...
It is still labelled as 15.1 and with old release notes but it is from today...

Starts now after the latest update but it's crashing unexpected after a couple of minutes, it's unusable for me. I don't know if it is a just a bug in my computer or if others users have the same problem.

Thanks DanMav. I found the archive on the BlackMagicDesign website and installed 15.0. It's been working fine for me too. I'll just carry on with 15.0 until the newer release stabilizes a bit more. Cheers.
