Dear BMD,

I am looking for a small software video player/trimmer and saver for doing video spotting work.
I have looked around on the web but could not find anything that came close.
I don't want to open up Resolve, it's an overkill for this job.
Just simply clicking on a video file, a player pops up in which you can set in and out points by pressing i and o, and then saving it, next in and out point, saving it, and so forth.

Could you produce or otherwise recommend one to me?

As a professional tool, I can fully recommend Kyno. But that does much mare than you are asking for…

i'm not sure, if this fits your needs: for the mpv video play there is lua-control script available, which seems do achive similar goals as in your description: https://github.com/lvml/mpv-plugin-excerpt

but it's very simple to modify the actual behaviour of the little control scripts and there are allready tons of them available: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts

I love the look and feel of Kyno, but do not yet have the funds for that (even though there's a free trial version), and I love the simplicty of MKVplayer, but I'll go with VirtualDub2.

Although the website says:

"Currently we have no support for raw video formats like RED Raw, Arri Raw, or Adobe DNG as produced bei Blackmagic Design cameras."
