For subtitling Resolve is now a great piece of software. The ease with which .srt files can be exported and imported in Resolve makes it a great tool.

But adding something to it can be of great value for old school people.

Many people still prefer to do their subtitling in the NLEs where they have worked. FCP7, FCPX or Premiere CC or whatever. Getting an xml of the text layer and bringing it to Resolve is like a breeze. But that remains as a text layer.

Please allow us to convert this text layer into a subtitle text layer so that everything falls in place and .srt files can be generated from the layer.

This is an ardent request, which would make lives easier for many of us.

How would you suggest the text file be parsed so that it is relevant to a time-stamp interface?

For a feature-length project, this can mean something like 1400-1800 text cells.

As of now, this can be done manually. Suppose I have the text layer containing the subtitle files in place.

I create a subtitle layer on top of it. Drag subtitle text from the text box on top of it and position exactly the way the files in the lower layer are placed. Then copy and paste each subtitle text on the top layer.

If this can be done manually, there can be an automated method too.
