Question re: 2.35 ratio rendering

PostMon Oct 01, 2018 11:58 am

Hello everyone, I am a confused n00b who is in need of an explanation. Why is it that everything that I shoot on my URSA Mini Pro's 2.35 windowed mode ends up looking like this after I've rendered the media. (see pics below)

As you can see there is black space on either side of the image. When I double click in VLC then it frames itself perfectly, but as you can see in comparison to every other film shot at 2.35 this black space at the side is not present. How can I fix this?

Creating a 1920 x 814 timeline and exporting it at the same ratio solves the issue.

HOWEVER: does anyone know if by doing this to 4K footage I am losing out on quality? I intend on showing this at festivals in full-sized theaters. Does anyone have any thoughts?

For theater presentations, you probably would like to follow DCI standards.

You probably have "fit" option in the scaling preferences, based on timeline requirement you might try with "crop"
