GPU memory is full

PostWed Oct 03, 2018 2:26 pm

Hello everyone !

I am new here :)

I just bought a new computeur because davinci was too slow on my old mac book pro. After dowloading davinci 15, I can't work on it, I can't upload anything in the time lime, I always have this message : Your GPU memory is full.
I looked all the morning trying to find what is wrong, because even if it's a small video from my phone, it's not working. I wonder if it's because the GPU is to small ? (sorry I am a french newbie in computing... ;-) ) or if there something wrong somewhere... I also download the driver for the GPU... not helping...

If you have few minutes to help me, please find the configuration of my brand new (and expensive) computeur :

Processeur intel core 17 7700
Corsair 32 GO (2x16 GO) DDR4 3200 MHz CL16
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 (2GO is it the porblem ??)
SSD 1to
... (do I need to give you more information ?)

I really don't know what to do, and I can't work so I am very worried.. :?

I know there is a lot of people who had the same error message, but here I can't even open a small video... (and I have to work on a 4K video...)

I hope someone can help me !

Thank you very much ! Merci ! :)

Hi Aude

You are right. The Nvidia GT 710 is not a suitable graphics card for working in Resolve. It is not designed for modern GPGPU tasks eg not enough CUDA cores and not enough memory. You need to replace that card with something much more modern and capable. As a minimum, I would suggest a 6GB GTX 1060 (cost is around €275)... but if you can afford something better then you should do so. For 4K work, a card with 8GB or more video memory is recommended.

Strongly recommend you read the Resolve 15 Configuration Guide.

Good luck
Andy

The fastest cheapest upgrade is a VEGA 56 for around €480 at amazon.fr or a VEGA 64 for around €600 also at amazon.fr. Both cards have 8GByte of HBM2 memory.

In terms of GPU memory, does it help to have two GPU cards? In other words, if I have two cards with 8GB RAM, does Resolve see 16GB, or are there some limitations?

It will see 2x 8GB, meaning you can't add them together.
