Use the Unmix button in the Viewer so that you're color-correcting the actual clip you want. The "V1" / "V2" label in the upper right of the thumbnail will tell you what track you're correcting at the moment.
For a lot of reasons, when I color correct I like to have the editor (or the conform artist) flatten the file so that there's a minimal number of video tracks, with all extraneous material removed, for precisely this reason. I can move more quickly through the project during color correction without any confusion.
I totally get that during editing, there are very good reasons to have a dozen or more video tracks floating around for alternate takes, angles, different coverage, and so on. But once the edit is locked, I think it makes sense in terms of workflow to flatten the timeline for color.
