braw files: davinci studio won't import 2 out of 100

I've been using BRAW files for the last 3 shooting days. Great format! But my Studioversion of davinci refuses to import 2 of the braw files. The others are totally fine. AND these two DO open on another computer in the lite version of davinci. The files are not broken.
At first I thought it could be too big of a file to work with for davinci/my computer. 7 minutes BRAW 5:1 (16GB). But then there came up the second file that wont import. That one ist much smaller (5GB). The average file I successfully import is about 4-8GB - and up to 19GB.
Is there any chance to get it to work? The other computer that opens the files (with davinci "lite") is not powerful enough for my project.

thanks!
Johannes

If Resolve allows braw trimming (not 100% sure it was yet added, but format and decoder support it), you can split the files to pieces in computer that opens them and see if these work in your project. Trimming basically allows exporting part of clip to new braw file.

:/ unfortunately I can't find an option to trim BRAW. And no BRAW export. I DO find a clone tool. I don't know if that one does something different, than just copying a file.

If you are in real trouble, maybe I can help. PM me link to your smaller file (the 5GB one) and I'll see if I can split it using SDK. I wrote braw reader for Nuke so I have at least a bit experience with the insides of decoder.

I think I can manage the Problem with the other computer. But today another file was recordet that can not be imported. I can't work like that. My workflow is totally screwed if i always have to find another installation of davinci to get certain files to work. I have a lot of small projects. i am constantly producing footage. I hoped i could reduce the space they are taking on my drives by using BRAW - but if this keeps coming up, I have to switch to ProRes again. :/
Is there nobody from Black Magic here who understands the problem and can solve it?

None can be imported. I managed to import on my mac with the same version of davinci but my mac is not powerful enough, why it does not work on my pc ? it was my third project shot with braw files and I had no problem before. Please help i gonna be crazy...

If anyone would like to post links to any of these non-working BRAW files, that could help in troubleshooting the situation.

Ok now I have tested those same files on my laptop with version 15.1.0 an they work just fine, I am begin to think it were the 15.1.2 update causing this, but I am not sure. To scared to upgrade Resolve on my laptop, but thinking about it.

In Resolve Preferences - System - Configuration, uncheck the "Use GPU for Blackmagic Raw decode" then save the prefs and restart Resolve.

if that makes it start working, there could be some issue with your GPU setup.

In that case, we'd want to see a Resolve Diagnostic Log (Resolve Help menu) and your Windows System Information saved as a .NFO file.

And ideally, a BRAW file that's not working.

Thanks for the file. It's working OK here on a Windows system with a GTX1050Ti card and 15.1.2.

It will be interesting to see what you find tomorrow.

Hi Dwaine
I tested unchecking: Use GPU for Blackmagic Raw decode, it did not change anything. GTX1070 8GB GPU.
Here in this drive folder you have System info, Grabb jpg of what happen when I try to drag the braw file on the timeline and the Resolve Log.

We need your System Information data in a .NFO file, not a screen grab.

When you have System Information open, Select File - Save. That will save to a .NFO file.

One thing here to ad.
I can open all those Braw Demo files from Blackmagic but non of mine on this PC, I can open them all on my Laptop.
The only difference is that I see *.sidecar file along with those BM demo files.

No, because we can't repro the issue, and nothing on Johannes system config appears out of the norm.

@Johannes: Are you now saying NONE of the BRAW files are opening on that system? I thought it was just 2 out of 100?

@Patrick: If you are having a similar issue, we'd like similar data. Logs and an NFO file, and a sample file that's not working for you.

Hi Dwaine,

I've got one Braw clip out of the UM46P that is ignored by Resolve's Media page and that crashes the Raw Player:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/inuci439hr8ub ... .braw?dl=0
(it may take an hour until it's up)

All other clips out of that camera are fine.

Just wanted to let you know, I installed Resolve 15.2 and braw works fine after that installation.

New Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4K Camera and DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 user. I messed around with my new camera and recorded some .braw files.

I backed them up from the SSD drive (Samsung T5 1tb) and when I try to import them into DaVinci, they do not import. I did find a .braw player called BrawViewer and I can play them fine. I am running Windows 10 on a Alienware Laptop with a Core i7 octacore, 32gb ram, Nvidia 1070Ti video card with 16gb of vram and plenty of HD space.

I did go into my Nvidia control panel and made sure that DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 is using the Nvidia 1070Ti card.

The files are not very big - one is less than 1gb and the other is a bit over 12gb.

Running DaVinci Resolve 15.1.1.005 licensed edition.

ED: "How can I get this to work?"

Problem solved! Downloaded the latest version 15.3.x.x and now it works!
