Projects have all disappeared!!!

PostFri Oct 12, 2018 7:53 pm

This business of permissions has gone from troublesome to near-disaster. After doing a PRAM reboot to try to reset the permissions (all of which were already read/write), I reloaded a project to find all of the media off-line (no I hadn't changed any paths or drive, and all relevant drives are working fine). I tried again to reload DR and all of a sudden all of my projects...and dozens of hours of work...no longer appeared in the project page. Because of the "secret" database I have no idea of how to recover any of the work. Can anyone help me here? Where is my data? How do I get it back into shape? I have two projects due next week and don't have a clue as to how to proceed. At this point I am willing to pay an expert for some serious consultation. HELP!!

Thanks

Bruce

I have found the database folder in the applications support path, but when I click on
"Project.db" for any of the projects I get a dialog box saying "there is no application set to open the document Project.db"". And when I navigate to to the the DR application folder, the app is grayed-out. So some progress, but not enough!

If I were you, I would contact Blackmagic Support via the webpage as soon as possible and get them copies of these files. It may be possible to get the projects back.

Just to project yourself from here on, always make a backup of your work every day, just in the event of OS or media failure (outside of Resolve). And it doesn't hurt to make a backup of your project database every week or two.

When you say "the app is greyed out" do you mean that that permissions have changed on the Resolve application and it won't launch? If you're having a system-wide permissions problem, it's really not related to Resolve. But like any other application resolve needs to be able to execute, and to read and write to your drive where the disk database is stored.

If the disc database permissions are a problem you can open the Terminal, type:

chmod -R +rw

then drag and drop from the Finder to the Terminal window the top directory of your disk database. The command should now look something like:

chmod -R +rw PathToYourDirectory

and hit enter. This will give everyone read and write permissions to everything in this path. This is a too permissive of a setting in my opinion, but at least it will allow you to troubleshoot.

If Resolve app is lacking executable permission you can do the similar thing but use chmod -R 770.

Thanks for this info. I've done the following:

1) I ran the command line to reset all permissions on all my drives

2) I did a full and complete uninstall of DR, including put all of the "Application Support" files into the trash. I did this to insure that any possible corrupt files have been removed.

3) Downloaded and re-installed DR

And when I restarted the hopefully "clean" version of DR I got this result:

1) An untitled project in the Project window

2) When I clicked on the untitled project I got the same error messages about missing permissions

3) And the curious part is that the path that DR could not find was the one used for the previous installation of DR, the one I thought I had completely removed.

4) In fact the preferences are still pointing to that path

So what in the world is happening here?
