pantone color matching

PostFri Oct 26, 2018 9:28 am

I suppose it is very simple but can somebody help me by explaining how to import pantone colour swatch so I can match it to a products packaging which of course is supposed to be this particular colour.?
Thank You

Take a screenshot of the swatch in question and save it as a PNG file. You can then use it as a reference still.

Thank you, but what if my monitors colours are off or not correctly calibrated? Even if I have the CMYK OR RGB numbers how or where do I use them to correct the clip colours?

Then you can't know what the footage actually looks like. It's critical that you do this kind of work with a correctly calibrated display, and a BMD video output device.

create a grey solid,
add "color concentrator" OFX,
type in client's supplied RGB values,
raise values in the "color concentrator" OFX
check with eyedropper to make sure it's accurate
save still

I would start with a calibrated monitor and scopes. We've matched product shots in commercials for many decades with this method, and I've worked with some very, very particular ad agencies who want (say) a box of detergent or a car color absolutely precise in every single shot. It takes time, but it can be done. Bear in mind that set lighting and camera exposure can affect the actual color that the object was in real life.

Pantone won't magically help you in that case. As a preliminary requirement you need a colour accurate workstation, and from that point the RGB numbers will work, because video displays are RGB.
