Cropping issues...

Hello everyone!

I'm doing my very first edit in DaVinci Resolve, moving from Premiere Pro.
I LOVE IT so far!

But, I'm having this WEIRD thing happening when I have different clips in parallel and I crop them to make a composite.
Attached are two pictures, showing what it's supposed to look like, and what's happening.
HELP.

Yeah, I downloaded it yesterday so it's the most recent one.

So I MIGHT have found what's causing it.

I watched a tutorial about how to make scrubbing faster, and it included changing the codec setting in the "User" render option.

It was set to ProRes HQ, I changed it to LT and that's when the issue started.
I changed it to ProRes, still a problem.

When I went back to ProRes HQ it went away... So it's these codecs then?

Can you please pm me with a project which shows the issue?

What happens if you do the multiframe composite on the Edit timeline instead and not "in parallel" (and I'm not sure what you mean by that)?

This should work if you just arrange the clips on Video Track 1, 2, and 3, and then crop each of them and move them around with the Inspector as needed on the Edit page. This should work with the composite mode in Normal (not add or screen or anything like that).

It is possible to do this with Nodes and Alpha channels as an actual key with multiple layers, but you'd have to be careful how you arranged them and sized the windows. I think it'd be faster and simpler on the Edit page.

You can also try for a Black generator border on the bottom track layer, which some have said made a difference.

Ok let's see.

Sorry I didn't quite express myself well there.
By "Parallel" I mean each of those three clips were in a separate video track, as you suggested. So we're aligned there.

The process you described is exactly how I did it. Cropped each one, and dragged them.
Now, one thing I should mention is, that bug happened whenever I changed anything in either of the bottom two tracks.
For example:
The track layout is:
Track 1 - Cecilia (The redhead girl)
Track 2 - Rod (me, the drummer)
Track 3 - Jeremy (piano guy)

Whenever I changed anything on Jeremy's track, Cecilia and mine bugged out like in the screenshot I posted.
To fix it, I had to change something on Cecilia's track, as in change position one pixel to any side, and then change it back. Because hers is on top, it'd fix it somehow.
BUT when playing it back, the bug still showed up at random moments during playback.
It only completely went away when I changed the codecs as I've stated previously here.

I did consider using a mask to achieve that, especially since I'm using the black borders in between clips and each track had separate clips, they weren't one track throughout, the mask would've made it easier to have each clip take up exactly the same space on screen. But meh, I already published the finished product. Will keep this in mind for future projects though.

BUT, since I'm JUST moving to Resolve, I want to ensure I won't have this issue in the future so by all means, I'll send the project file! I just... don't see a way to attach anything in a PM so I'll attach it here. But obviously whoever opens it, won't have the source files so I don't know how much help that will be.

EDIT: The attachment thing here doesn't allow .drp files? I'm now officially lost as to how to send it.

You can check it out here:

Put it on dropbox (or the like) and post the link for BMD to download. Also see the process for posting info at the top of the forum to give your system info.

Has a solution or workaround been found for this bug? I'm experiencing it, but my codecs are totally normal as far as I can tell.
I'm just trying to render with the default Youtube settings. My crops for some of my videos only crop if there is nothing under them. Problem is, I need stuff under them.
