Updating NVIDIA drivers on Linux?

PostThu Nov 29, 2018 11:19 pm

BMD's CentOS 7.3 ships with the 390.42 NVIDIA driver.

However, now all three of these are available:
  • Latest Long Lived Branch Version: 410.78
  • Latest Short Lived Branch Version: 415.18
  • Latest Legacy GPU version (390.xx series): 390.87

I know we prize the Linux build for it's stability and it BMD recommends against updating the OS, but is there any reason to update [or not update] the driver?

I guess the main reason NOT to update the NVIDIA driver on Linux is because we still recommend the 390.42 driver in the 15.2.1 Linux Install doc.

Which means either we haven't yet tested and certified a newer version (most likely) or perhaps we have tested newer versions and don't like what they do.

We are having some issues with resolve15.3.1 and I am thinking it may be due to the nvidia driver we are running.

Currently we have dual / triple RTX2080Ti cards installed in the machines running NVIDIA driver 430.40.
What is the qualified Davinci resolve driver for this resolve version we are running...
Please & thanks

The qualified NVIDIA driver for Resolve 15.3.1 is 390.42.

Which won't work with those cards.

The Resolve 16 driver is 430.40, so that should be OK for those cards.

But feel free to try a newer driver to see if that helps.

Thanks very much Dwaine for the response and info.
We'll stay with this nvidia version as we are planning on going to resolve soon.
