Project management

PostThu Dec 27, 2018 5:17 pm

Hello everybody,
It's time for me to archive my first project on Davinci 15, but I can't find the archive option via right-click the project on the project manager. It's not there, simply.
I wonder if someone had the same issue.

Thanks

It's right there in the menu you show in your screen shot: "Export Project Archive."

Also, I would just point out that there are alternatives to archiving that can save a lot of space: if you go to the File menu in Resolve and choose "Media Management," and use "Copy," you can choose to make a copy of the project that includes only the media you actually used in the project, instead of all your unused clips and audio etc.

One word of warning: don't use the "move" command in the Media Management menu, as it's risky (e.g., if Resolve crashes during the move you can lose original files).

I can't remember what the menu command used to say, maybe just "archive," but I suspect they changed it to "Export Project Archive" for consistency and clarity. It's more consistent with other commands where you're exporting or importing, and it's perhaps more clear to people: if you saw a menu item that just said "Archive," you might worry that it would remove the project from your current project manager. That would be a concern if you were still working on a project but wanted to export archives periodically for safekeeping offsite. Exporting makes it very clear that you're simply exporting an archive copy to somewhere else, but your current live project isn't going to disappear from your project manager.
