Linked video and clip not moving together

PostTue Jan 15, 2019 5:45 pm

Hello, I started using davinci a week ago and encountered a weird but must-be-easy problem.

When I linked video and audio clips so far, they were selected together and moved together until I undo the link.

But now, I can suddenly choose them individually and they won't move together in the timeline. Instead, when I moved one of the linked clip, it shows the sync time difference in the small red square box at the bottom left side of the each linked clip.

How can I turn it back to what it used to be?

Thanks for helping a noob davinci user!

You disabled Linked Selection. You can click on the button that looks like a chain link right above the Timeline, or hold down ctrl+shift+L.

Im having a similiar issue, although my clips do show they have the chain on them both, when i select or deselect the chain in timeline control window it either selects all clips that can be moved together or when unselected only 1 clip however the single clip still only moves that clips video and not audio!

sorry didn't want to start new thread as this one was so similiar.

I now suddenly have the same problem. The clips are linked the magnet is on but they are not moving together. This is clearly a bug surely?

The magnet is for snapping, the chain is for linking, make sure that the Chain icon is enabled.

Make sure the Link icon is on before selecting any clips.
I would suggest you have a look at BMDs own training videos.

I had this same problem and wanted to post my fix in case someone else finds this thread through a search.

My Video and Audio were linked and I could move everything together just fine. The next morning when resuming editing I could no longer move them in sync but would get the red out-of-sync square notice. Enabling/Disabling the Chain Icon link (next to the snap to icon above the timeline) didn't seem to make any difference. I made sure it was Enabled prior to selection. I tried saving and rebooting etc. Nothing worked.

Spoiler alert. This was a self-inflicted wound.

What fixed it in my case: I had [experimentally] clicked the Padlock Icon on the far left side of the Track to try and fix a different issue a few days back. These Padlock icons are located just below the V1, V2...A1, A2... Setting these back to the Unlocked state fixed my problem.

Also make sure that neither the video or audio part of the clip is selected before clicking the link icon. If one part is they will still behave as if they are unlinked.

In my case,I noticed that "auto track selector" had been disabled for the audio track. This button is available at the far left of the tracks. Beside padlock symbol

I also had the same problem and found that it was due to the "auto track selector" option being turned off in the audio track while it was on in the video track. Make sure the auto track selector is turned on in both linked track.

Hi All,

I have tried all the solutions suggested here, and none of them work in my case. I'm using version 18.1.49 at the moment. Basically, what happens in my case is that when I unlink audio and video on the timeline, it will not relink, regardless of clip, even after re-enabling the chain icon and the auto track selector. Is there something else that I'm not doing or thinking about?

Yes there is one more. If you linked using the right click, that overrides the link from previous link. Or makes it a separate control. Right click And choosing link or unlink is different with the chain link. So that could cause the problem if you were experimenting.
