optimized media thumbnails

Hello to the forum, Im a new user of Davinci Resolve and so far this program works great, very impressed. Syncing is a dream, stabilize is great and works so much better than what Im used to with Adobe Pr.

I had a look online and through this forum but unfortunately I didnt find an answer and was wondering if I can get your help on this.

I edit on a laptop with 2 drives internally and have my original clips on an external drive which i use to import and creat my timeline. I want to create optimized media and work with them without the external plugged in. When I do that and disconnect my external I get playback but no thumbnails on either the media pool or the timeline.

Am I missing something?
