Applying LUT from NODES tab crashes i5-8250u | 15.2.2 | W10

PostWed Jan 23, 2019 10:37 pm

Every time I apply a LUT to any clip (1080p MP4).
Several times, I have uninstalled completely DRL15 (removing all Davinci folders in the ProgramData & Program Files Folders). I even tried installing DRL 14.3.1, but it crashes on the splash screen (Davinci Panels are not installed FIY).

Re-downloaded a fresh copy of DRL 15.2.2.007, and still crashes when I right click on a NODE and ADD a 3D Lut.
I'm running a Dell 5290 (tablet 2n1): i5-8350u, 8GB Ram, 250SSD (150G free) latest W10 1803.
DRL works fine on my 2 other very much OLDER mobile devices;
- Surface Pro 3 (i5, 4GB Ram!!!)
- 2013 Macbook Air (i5, 8GB Ram). I don't understand how can DRL work so badly on newer hardware.

The only work around I have found until somebody can find a fix for this problem. Is to 'right click' on the CLIP on the Timeline and 'select your 3d Out Lut'. This way it doesn't crash, BUT I'm not able to copy the color settings on to the other clips! I have to add the LUT individually.
Another way, is to add the 3D OUT LUT in the Project Settings automatically. But that would apply 1 (same) LUT to every clip in the project (not recommended).

Man your system is severely underpowered.

I'm surprised you can actually even open the sw.

Actually for 1080p is perfectly fine. Exporting 1080p averages about 30fps. Not bad for igpu. Of course my i7-2600k OC @4.4ghz with 16g Ram and a GTX960 averages about 110fps.
But sometimes I need to do some quick videos on the go, therefor the need to fix this problem.
As mentioned in the my post, my other mobiles devices are even more “underpowered” but run fine. So clearly is not a problem with the hardware.

FYI the 2013 MBA i5-4250u with 8gb Ram was my main machine for a while, until I ended up building my own rig. So please, don’t discriminate the limitations others might have. I’m not blessed with a modern high powered pc, but I want to make due with what I have.
If anyone else has any advice on how to fix this problem I would love to hear them.
Thanks in advanced.

Sadrac

Can you post a link to a log archive and more complete hardware specs? Could you also post an NFO file?

I'm not discriminating, you're underpowered based on the recommended resolve specifications. I'm stating the obvious.

The fact that you're able to make it work most of the times it's good, I'm not surprised of something goes wrong from time to time.

Your gpu is not suitable to run resolve.

I understand the underpower theme, but how can much older hardware (mind you that their are also intel igpu hd5000) run DRL 15.2.2.007 fine???
Specially considering that the Surface Pro 3 only has 4GB Ram!!! :o

Another point is that I can apply luts with work around such as; In the "Colors" work area, right clicking on the clips and applying 3d luts. Or going to the "Projects Settings" > "Color Management" add 3d Lut.

Both of these options apply the LUT fine. So how can my Dell apply Luts and Color correct just fine??
and export to DNxHD just fine (30fps ave.)???

That leads me to believe, that regardless of the Hardware circumstances, DRL needs to fix a bug with applying 3d luts on newer 8th gen igpu.

The difference might be that in the settings it does not require an instantaneous preview in high quality, while in color does and it hits the gpu that fail.

By any mean, keep using that hardware, no amount of "????" After a sentence will make it go faster.

No matter the settings I put in Davinci results in crashes. Even when I try to set my Color Space & Transforms settings manually, it crashes once I hit "Save".
How can my newer tablet (i5/8g/HD630) keep crashing? while the older MacBook Air (2013 i5/8g/HD5000) and my Surface Pro 3 (i5/HD4400?/4g) doesn't crash.

Graphics driver, maybe?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks I thought about that too. So last night I just finished reinstalling Dell's latest intel iGPU drivers, and by coincidence Davinci Resolve just updated to 15.2.4. But still crashes.
I sent a report via the pop up screen after the crash.
I also updated all my devices to DRL 15.2.4, and they are still applying luts just fine.

I can set my color management to input = SLOG2 & output = Rec.709, but only the Dell tablet crashes after adding clips to the timeline.

I'm at the point of thinking to do a complete Windows 10 system restore, and start from scratch.
Unless, there are other alternatives. I do appreciate all the help I can get.

Ensure you run the latest drivers and search the forum for 620 GPU. I remember multiple people reporting issues with the 620.

Thank you so much! You got looking at the right direction.

I have Good News and Bad News!

Good: Fix it by downgrading UHD 620 drivers to version 22.20.16.4815
Bad: Old drivers, and I mean old. This version was updated in 2017! Yikes!

But at least Davinci is working normally. I can apply luts, change Color Space in Color Manangement.
So I'm happy for that.

I'm a little concern with the older drivers how they might affect the over all performance of my Tablet.
We'll see!

So what I'm gonna do now is, once more update to the latest Dell UHD drivers and see if Davinci stays good. If it breaks, than I'm gonna have to use old drivers until Dell hurries up and updates their UHD drivers. Since Intel's website have newer drivers, but Dell doesn't allow me to install them.

Well I just finished testing the newer UHD drivers and is a BUST.

So as of now Dell's UHD 620 doesn't work with UHD drivers Version 24.20.100.6286.

Uninstall them, Reboot and let Windows 10 automatically install Version 22.20.xxx.
These drivers worked fine with Davinci.

Hopefully Dell will update their drivers soon, because they are so behind Intel.

I'm in the same boat, sort of...
I have a Lenovo I7-8550U with Intel UHD 620 iGPU and crashes resolve all the time. To the point that is unusable.

Thanks for sharing your learnings JPRtech. Will try older drivers and see if also works for me.

Lets hope Blackmagic can fix this issue on new releases as it clearly is a bug.

I hope it works out for you. ;)
By the way the latest drivers that work for me is Intel HD620/640 Ver. 23.20.16.5018_A09

I also had issues with Davinci Resolve and Intel UHD 620. Uploading to the latest driver version 25.20.100.6618 saved any stability issues in Davinci Resolve and increased performance. You might have to download the zip file driver and install through device manager/update drivers/search pc.

That’s great! Thanks for the reassurance.

I was able to update to the latest UHD drivers (25.20.100.6618 from Intel's website).
Dell hasn't officially updated their drivers yet, but since my tablet doesn't have a dedicated gpu. So I went ahead and unzip the drivers file and installed it manually.
Yes! DR 15 works now much better.
Luts in Nodes is working, Fusion is also running fine... only bug I have now, is that I can't preview the clips on FULL SCREEN. Pressing Control F, just hides the window. I use to be able to monitor my footage in full screen, but now it doesn't work.

Anyways I'm gonna try the latest DRL 16 and see if that works any better!

Re: Applying LUT from NODES tab crashes i5-8250u | 15.2.2 |

PostThu May 09, 2019 1:21 pm

Hello,

I am also experiencing problems with Davinci Resolve 15.3 crashing when trying to apply a LUT.

I have the following system:
HP Envy 13
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8265U CPU @ 1.60GHz 1.80GHz
8GB RAM
Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620
Windows 10

As i understand from this thread, multiple persons with the same iGPU that i have, have had the same problems. I tried downloading the 25.20.100.6618 driver for win 10 adviced here in the thread, but when i run the .exe file i get an error message that the drivers are not compatible with my GPU after a little while.

Anybody have some advice for a not so tech savvy person if i am doing something wrong or if i have misunderstood anything.
Help would be very much appreciated.

Edit: Managed to install the 26.20.100.6709 version through downloading the zipfile and installing via the device manager. So far this update seem to have done the trick. I don´t experience any bug with fullscreen playback either.
