0 Activations Left, but only one machine activated

PostTue Feb 05, 2019 11:58 pm

I have Resolve installed on my one machine at home. Today when I opened Resolve, it asked for the product activation key for some reason. I entered it, and now it says 0 activations left. I've only activated it on this one machine. Will this be a problem if I want to install it on another computer? Or if Resolve asks me to activate for no reason again in the future?

If somebody else used to activate using your key, they can kill your activation. Is there any chance somebody else has access to the activation key?

Why does Black Magic require a Dongle or Activation Key for Resolve?

With Resolve you can have both of them up and running. I regularly use one for rendering.

But don't worry anyway, if you activate it again on a new machine, the very first activation will be canceled. So, if it was somebody else, their activation will be gone. Pretty good approach, if you ask me, so you don't have to care if you forget to deactivate an older installation when a whole system crashes and has to be deleted.
Such a situation can be a PITA with some other software.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

No one else has used my activation key, though. I got a Pocket 4k three months ago. Installed Resolve on my one computer, at home, and activated it. Yesterday Resolve acted like I had never activated it. The only thing that maybe had anything to do with it is that I installed the latest BM Camera Utility to update my Pocket 4k camera when the 6.1 firmware came out??

Since it says 0 activations left, that means there are two activations for one computer somehow?

Just try to use the same key again.

Definitely. Dongles or key-cards are like cash.

In your case, it depends on who loses his or her patience faster…

Hi, I have installed a new windows drive (NVME M2). After doing a data migration (harddisk clone) I had to reactivate Resolve and now have no activations left aswell.

Is it normal to deactivate Resolve on the old hard disk after doing a harddisk clone?

Don't worry about it. If (when) you need to activate again you can remove the other activations from the activation screen. It will actually happen automatically, if I remember correctly.

Normally, but there have been issues reported by others, so my choice would always be to deactivate an old 'machine' first.

Today I have the same problem.
Since this morning I can't open the software because it asks me to insert the activation key, but when I insert it it says "no activation left". The software is not running on other machines at the moment. I have also tried to activate it on other computers and with other internet connections but the problem persists.

Coul it be a Blackmagic server problem? Does anyone have the same issue today?

Thanks

Since yesterday Resolve asks me to enter my activation key every time I start my computer. The only change I made to my PC was the addition of 2 PCIe USB 3.2 cards, which didn't need drivers. What's the logic here? It's annoying and I don't want to be attached to the internet if I don't have to. Anything I can do apart from taking out the card?

It looks like version 17.4.2 solved the problem!

This is very common. Windows requires a Key.

Dongles are good for shared work spaces. Maybe you have 6 editors, but only buy 3 dongles and let them fight over it. Of course when someone loses a dongle you are screwed.

The other option commonly used in industry (not BM) is to have a key server on your network. You buy 3 keys and the server checks them out to the first 3 people who log in. When you close the software the key is checked back in for someone else to use. Could even pipe across a VPN to people working from home. A better solution than handing around a $10k key.

There are two versions: Resolve, and Resolve Studio. Only the Studio version requires activation.
