Color grading for individual clips in Multicam timeline

I've just finished my first Multicam project. It's a single song of a concert (I'll publish it later, but don't laugh at me .

We shoot with 5 cams and it's a mix of different Canon's, Panasonic and GoPro. I arranged a multicam timeline for all of the track (obviously, nobody used timecode). And I thought I could change color setting for separate tracks within timeline but it seems like I can't do this. It changes colors for the whole bunch of clips together.

So, should I color grade clips individually, render them and only after that create a new project and use them in a multicam timeline?

You can grade the individual clips. Open the multicam timeline in the edit workspace. Right-click on any part of the video timeline. Select "Open in Timeline" from the context menu. You will now see the original clips that you have synced up.

If you now go to the color workspace, you can correct and grade each whole clip. To go back to the edited multicam timeline, go to the edit workspace, then in the bottom left corner of the screen you can click on the timeline name to go "up a level".

If you do make adjustments to the original clips, make sure you remember, because the nodes can only be seen when you go into the timeline in the fashion outlined above. The clips in the "final" timeline won't indicate any corrections, which could lead to confusion.

I don't see "Open in Timeline". I did open my Multicam timeline in the edit workspace...



If I right-click on the video track there's no "Open in Timeline" obviously...

You don't see the "Open in Timeline" option because you have "Stacked Timelines" enabled and you are in the "Multicam" tab, which is just above the timecode on the left. From this tab if you switch to the color tab, you can color correct the tracks. If you click on the tab "Timeline1" right next to the "Multicam" tab, you can switch to the Color tab and color correct the individual clips you created in the multicam timeline.

ok, thank you! I figured that out. I graded individual clips but in order to actually see the clip in the color workspace I have to go to Multicam timeline and turn off video of those above the clip I need to color grade. And I do this for every clip. So I wonder if I'm still doing something wrong.

Can you post a screenshot of what you are describing?

ok, so here's the Multicam timeline and I selected the clip I need to grade. Now, notice there are other above it:



and then I switch to edit workspace and select it there:



The video in the viewer IS NOT the video for a clip I selected. It's the video from the clips above (which is logical). But that's just uncomfortable.

When you are in the Color tab, make sure you have "Clips" selected in the upper right. This will show a strip of all of the clips in the Timeline that you created. These clips will correspond with the clips in the Edit tab. Here you can select each individual clip and color grade it.

If you want to color grade the tracks from the "Multicam" tab, then you will want to click on the "Split Screen" button on the upper left corner of the viewer. Then you will be able to see both tracks in the viewer when you click on them

Tried. Doesn't work in my case. Let me create a video tomorrow, maybe then we'll be on the same page.

That's what 'unmix' is for. When in the color room, if you want to see the selected clip rather than a top down composite of the clips at the playhead position, you enable 'unmix'. This is also a good feature to know about when you're grading clips under a transition. Enable unmix, and you won't have to go enabling and disabling other clips in order to see the selected one.
