No worries.

Yes I tried isolators and all sorts of things before I finally, after months, got frustrated and cut the plug. Nothing else worked.

For background I've been building and operating professional recording studios for most of my life so troubleshooting hums is second nature. This one was weird. My computer guru had never heard of such a thing and, in the end, we guessed it was related to something miss-wired in the computers power supply.

I've had it happen on 2-3 computer builds over about 10 years.

This case is an old one, but it's new to me as my son's friend had it laying around and wanted to get rid of it. I planned on giving my brother my old PC, so I figured I'd use the case and then I wouldn't have to buy a new one. I didn't think about how the lack of proper bonding might become a source of noise. No PC I've ever built has had audio noise. It's not even very loud, it's just above being audible when the CPU fan is running at low speed and I'm adjusting a control in Resolve 16. I don't hear the noise in any other application, just Resolve 16. I didn't even hear it in Resolve 15. I think the other poster that mentioned current flows into the GPU is probably right since I'm using the scopes on the color view and Resolve 16 is now powering those scopes with the GPU, whereas Resolve 15 wasn't, so the noise issue is starting to make sense to me now, but I'll try the ungrounded outlet adapter too. After all, I already have it and it's only a few seconds of my time to try it, so there's little reason not to, but I will bond that mobo panel before I try to unground the power supply cord. I have to make sure all metal case surfaces are electrically connected together before ungrounding from the outlet.

Yes same with me. It seemed tied to the video card / power supply. Noise was most apparent when moving the mouse under video intensive situations.

It could be that Ver16 is using more memory on the GPU and there's a shielding issue. (Video card proximity to the audio chip)

In the end with my issues we figured it was a miss-wired ground between the GPU & power supply (but probably in in the PSU as it was present with more than one Vid Card)

Hi all.
I've got scaling issues with UHD footage on a HD timeline. Also, crashing when using 4k clips.
I have a bin with about 30 shots in it. Sometimes the folder opens and all the thumbnails show. Other times If I open the bin the thumbnails begin to appear then stop, then Resolve exits without warning.

Hopefully an update will arrive soon.

Cheers.

I noticed that opening and then closing a project to open and close another causes resolve to exit. Windows 10 64bit + r16 and nvidia 425.31

how to replicate:
Open any project
Press "ctrl+1" and hit "close"
Do not save (no changes were made anyways)
Open another project
Press "ctrl+1" and hit "close"
Do not save (no changes were made anyways)
Resolve just crashes at this point

p/s It's still at beta stage, let's put some hope

What is the use in the Cut page of empty space in lower pane, i.e. that the first clip begins in the middle on the lower timeline while on the upper timeline it is completely on the left, and whether there will be some zoom-in/zoom-out (like in the Color page, for example) on the two timelines (the upper and the lower ones)?

It starts in the middle because the playhead stays still while the timeline moves under it. Even though it starts out with blank space to the left, most people will not stay at the beginning of the Timeline for long so it will most often have footage taking up that space.

That's because it's redundant and a waste of space (which the Cut page is designed to avoid), just press J like everyone else

DR16 - possible bug? Now, I'll never admit to using the Auto button properly of course - but sometimes, I find it interesting to click it - just to see what it thinks I should have seen.

Anyway. In previous releases, when you clicked it, the points and values on the wheels would change to reflect what it had done. This is no longer the case. Neither in Color Wheels, nor in bars or curves, there is no reference to what it did (in order to back it off a bit in the case when it mahoooooosively over-saturates).

Just pointing this one out, in case no one else does.

Bug: Gang viewers menu option resets to off when changing a media clip, even though ganging remains enabled.

Reproduce:
1. Open timeline and ensure source viewer is visible
2. Select Gang Viewers from either timeline or source viewer ellipsis menu. Note that Gang Viewers menu item checkbox is on for both source viewer and timeline viewer ellipsis menus.
3. Double click a clip in the media pool. The source viewer will update.
4. Click the ellipsis menu for either viewer. The gang viewers checkbox is suddenly off, even though if you scrub either video they still behave as if ganged.

Bug: Adding a default transition (ctrl-t) when edit cursor is at the end of the timeline ends up inserting the video transition with end-on-edit alignment (expected), but the audio transition is center-on-edit (unexpected).

Bug: Titles rendered at low-res regardless of the timeline resolution. If the title is above another track, it also renders low-res. All titles seem to be affected, but Fusion titles are much worse.
In fact, this bug was present in 15.3, but only when rendering 1080p. Now it does not matter what resolution.

Fine on my system, maybe provide screen grabs. Does the same title render at different qualities on the same timeline if you change resolutions? You should also list what your timeline versus output resolution is for each.

Okay - i think the CUT section could have been a good idea... ..

it works fine for laptops etc.

BUT.... you forgot the users with the big Workstations and 2 or more Screens...

please, give the opportunity to use the Timeline-Monitor on another screen too...
And let the user choose how many tracks they want to expand... (like in the edit-section)

when having a bigger project with a lot of tracks, i still have to edit in the edit-section, because everything is so small in the CUT Section..
and if i expand the lower timeline (which was developed for for "better OVERVIEW" )
the Timeline monitor scales down to less than smartphonesize...

this is non-sense as its best

Gladly. Timeline is UHD, output also UHD, or FullHD. Timeline monitor is 1080. Yes, HD output looks better (just no anti-aliasing on the text), UHD looks horrible, more like 360p with JPEG artifacts.

What I also figured out, using YouTube and Vimeo presets yield the worst results. Using a custom preset with "force resize/debayer to the highest quality" checked makes the background look fine, just test is not anti-aliased and has letters surrounded by artifacts. Basically, what you see on the timeline screenshot.

One more thing... When the title is open in the Fusion page, it looks fine.

Is it doing it on the timeline, or in project preview? If it is the latter, having the project already loaded, open the project manager window, right-click on your project thumbnail and choose "update thumbnails". If it is the former, try to re-render the clip "render fusion output" and see what happens.

Well, for those interested, the audio isolator worked, even at high volumes, and now the static noise is completely gone while I'm adjusting controls in Resolve 16, so item 3 on my bug list was not a bug, it was noise in my system.

However, I found a few more bugs/missing features.

Bugs:
1) I tried to close a project with the project manager, and there was no response to clicking the close button. I tried selecting the current project from the list and clicking the close button and nothing happened. I also tried selecting the project I wanted to open and clicking the close button and nothing happened. I had to exit Resolve 16 and then re-start it to open a different project.

Update Item 1 4/18/2019: So now the close button has started responding, but just makes the project manager window disappear without doing anything. I don't know why it wasn't responding before and now it is, but it still doesn't close the project. However, if I left double click on a project in the project manager window, it does close the current project and opens the project that I left double clicked on.

Missing Features:
1) No inspector in the cut view unless you insert a regular text object, and then you have to open the tools view on the monitor and click the "T" icon in order for the object inspector button to appear. However, the object inspector button disappears if I select anything in the cut view other than text. Text+ objects do not produce a "T" icon on the tools view, so there is no way to edit the text+ in the
cut view. In addition, if I open the object inspector window on a regular text object, and then select a different object, the object inspector window disappears, so I can't even do a work around. Please add the inspector view selector button to the upper tool bar like in the regular timeline editor and please make it so that we can inspect every object. Also, I really like having the ability to pop out the inspector into its own window because that lets me place the inspector window in a different monitor and make more room in the main view, so it would be nice if we could pop the inspector into its own window in every view.

2) No fade controls on the cut view clips and no representation of the fade is shown. I have to switch back to the regular timeline editor to use the fade controls. Please add fade controls to the cut view clips.

3) No file names displayed on the cut view clips. Please add the file name of the clip (or whatever name it was called in the media pool).

4) No ability to treat audio and video channels separately in the cut view. I can always go back to the regular timeline to edit them separately, but that slows down the work flow.

Anyway, that's just a few more things that I've found as I've used 16.

It starts in the middle because the playhead stays still while the timeline moves under it. Even though it starts out with blank space to the left, most people will not stay at the beginning of the Timeline for long so it will most often have footage taking up that space.

I understand it, and now I almost get used to it. (Though, I wish there is on option to begin in the lower timeline with the playhead at the utmost left position, and therefore not to waste left quarter of the screen as an empty space.)

I have tried turning off as many GPU related options as I could find in DR Preferences but the issue continues. Any ideas on how to fix this? This is only a 5 min. 4K video with 4 or 5 video clips and 10-12 stills in it. No fusion, only minor color correction, no sharpening or noise reduction used either.

Anyone have any suggestions or other bugs that they are experiencing?

Yeah, we've all experienced the Full GPU bug before. I can wait until the next update, but my annoyance is in the fact that it keeps getting worse. I don't mind the occasional Full GPU error message, but now it's happening much more frequently. I do this for fun and it's taking all the fun out of it, I can only imagine you guys who do this for a living, how exasperating it must be.

Bug: Enabling Selection Follows Playhead when playhead is currently over a clip just selects the video clip even though Linked Selection is on.

When the playhead is dragged off and then back on that same clip, both tracks are selected as expected. It's only when Selection Follows Playhead is toggled from off to on does this occur.

Related bug (well it may not quite be a bug but is it sort of feels like one): with Selection Follows Playhead on, gaps between clips aren't automatically selected. Those still require manually clicking.

(Edit: looks like Linell's post is gone but I guess I'll leave my reply here anyway since my point is still relevant.)

Linell Roy wrote:ii need an update ASAP!! i cant work. this the last time i try anything in beta.

We see reactions like this every time there is an initial beta release with Resolve. On the one hand, the standard refrain is "it's beta, you should only use it if you're willing to accept bugs, don't use it for active projects, etc."

On the other hand, BMD absolutely invites unwitting users into this position with really no caution whatsoever. You google for Resolve, you land on the product page, you click download, you're offered download links for a public beta with no warning and no obvious way at that time to download the latest stable version. Sure, it says beta, but the absence of any clear way to download the non-beta could be quite reasonably interpreted as a signal that BMD considers this beta to be stable for real work. And if "stable beta" sounds like an oxymoron, consider we live in a world of multi-year product betas from the likes of Google which are actually quite baked.

And then you see Youtubers trying Resolve for the first time, perhaps because they've heard some buzz from NAB or perhaps a sheer coincidence of timing, and due to the above the end up with the beta, and proceed to lambaste Resolve for all the bugs they encounter.

So I really am sympathetic to users like Linell, many of whom must feel bait-and-switched once they're told how unreasonable they're being to expect the moderately stable product that all outward appearances suggest it would be.

Another bug: qualifier does not seem to work. It chooses correct color/saturation/luminance numbers, but the mask covers the whole image.

Trying Resolve 16 on my old iMac, seemed to work OK but when I loaded a particular project from 15 it locked up the whole machine so that I had to force a restart by holding the power button down.

I think the problem was a Fusion comp with an OFX Grid. So, be warned, beta testers, careful with your OFX Grid :) ! If I pasted in a version without that connected, then things seem to work. I've sent a log and a drp to support.

My only other gripe so far is that I can't find a way to cache an Adjustment Clip (with a Fusion comp inside). Any tips? Smart didn't seem to work.

When the title is open in the Fusion page, it looks fine.

the whole ''more'' reliable thing about the new fusion page doesn't really go for me so far. some things seem faster but still alot of crashes. like rightclick on viewer and save image causes a crash repeatedly

I generally agree but they've fixed the cache problem so that's a very good start!

PLEASE ADD custom Timeline Expanding in the CUT-Area.
Its impossible to work, when using more than 4 tracks, every track turns so small.
When expanding one Track, the other turns small again...

One thing support mentioned to me, worth keeping in mind, there's more GPU acceleration in Fusion now which is good if you have a high end GPU but more likely to crash it than before if your GPU isn't up to it. Like my old 2GB Radeon I guess (I'm not willing to try it on my PC with the 8GB card yet)

Just redownload the last firmware for Resolve 15 and it will reinstall it. Did the same thing after trying to open beta16 with constant fail.

Could you provide a link to your diagnostic log archive Rick? Could you also list a more comprehensive hardware and driver profile?

BMD needs to figure out how to scale usage of GPU. Many users only have 2 GB of VRAM on laptop systems and Resolve exhausts this and crashes quite often even with HD workflows. I can understand there being a technical limit to minimum GPU memory if you are using 4K or 8K frame sizes but if you drop to an offline proxy workflow Resolve should be able to scale back its use of GPU. As it stands, it does not.
