My Resolve refuses to start up it makes the process wheel and even if you watch the process run in Task Manager. It seems to be starting up fine then it just cuts out and goes to 0 usage of cpu ram ect. I have tried clearing the process before, checking the ports, rebooting and launching admin and finally trying to run in compatibility mode. Attached the log file maybe that helps. It was working fine about a week or two ago.

Drivers are updated to latest
64bit windows 10
i7-6700K CPU
64 GB Ram
Geforce RTX 2080 TI

Which specific GPU driver is installed?
Consider also posting logs and nfo as per FAQs

Nvidia version 460.79 released 12/09/2020
and tried to attach the log before but keeps saying the file is to big.

I have the same problem resolve 16/17 dont start, I have read all the posts related to this topic and have no luck get it running. This happens after i accidentally plug the hdmi to motherboard integrated video card, it can open but runs very slow, then i realized i used wrong card, and i plug hdmi to my GTX1060, and here the problem comes, resovle wont start. Sometimes I can see it is running in task manger but no UI is loaded, and CPU usage if it is 0%, i end it in task manager manually and restart, and it wont even make to task manager

Before that everything runs ok, in resovle 16

Environment : Windows 10 with GTX1060 6G, 16Gb ram

I have tried uninstall and reinstall, tried both 17 and 16 version, neither works, also tried uninstall all my wireless devices(read from other post), did not help too

I'm here from Scott Fisher's video. I painstakingly tried all his solution possibilities. I'm happy that the comments revealed that various ones worked for different people. But sadly, none of them have worked for me. The youtube community seems to generally give the same solutions on the topic. I even tried reinstalling a bunch of times, doing full virus scans & retrying resolve. Nothing works. Gonna give as much info as I possibly can here to help with diagnosis. Resolve used to work just fine, but then my pc started to suffer from what is called a checksum error; it would suddenly shut off when the internals were running hard (I'd be able to hear it if I listen closely), & when I put it back on, it would return a checksum error. From then on, I'd be able to use it and it doesn't give any problem once I don't run it hard; if I ever hear the internals too much, I'd just stop scrubbing, editing, or whatever and just allow it to calm back down. But one time when I was using resolve as usual, it just shut off. I must not have heard the internals that time. But when I turned it back on as normal, resolve would keep opening in background processes only. And so far...NOTHING is working to solve it.
So I'm on the last option in Scott Fisher's video...writing to Support. I've attached the log files, but the NFO won't attach for some reason, so please let me know what info from it you need.
Please help. It's been 4 miserable days.

I have worked with my two bmpcc 4k's for a year now and love them. I work full time as a video editor and use Davinci Resolve 17. I added 2 fusion titles back to back, and the program basically shut down on me. And now I have tried many things to get it to start up, but it just will not. It acts as it will start, but then the main login screen goes away, and it never starts. I have watched Scottfichhters video and done everything he said to get it to work, and I can not figure it out. I Started a new desktop login on my windows pc and was able to get it to open on that but could not get any of my DB files to open. I don't know what to do because I use all of my projects to make the next one. I work for a college and four youtube Channels, and it would be detrimental to lose all I have. I am in desperate need of help.

I am having problem with Resolve 17 Beta not starting at all. I did have the same problem with Resolve 15 earlier before I uninstalled it to try Resolve 17. Please use the following link to download the davinci resolve log file and .nfo file.

Your NVIDIA driver is too old. Update to the current 460.89 Studio driver.

And when you install the driver update, select the Custom install option, and then select to do a Clean install.

I've been using Da vinci resolve 16 for several days now and many hours, it was working good, but now it won't start again. There's nothing in the task manager.
I've tried several things (updates, firewalls, uninstall and install other versions, replace files ...)

Your config.dat file has become corrupted.

That file lives here on your system:

C:\Users\lamma\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

We keep a copy called config.dat.bak

That file is OK.

Delete the bad config.dat file.

Make a copy of the config.dat.bak file.

Rename that copy to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

Hello Dwaine Maggart and of the Davinci team! I love you guy's product, which is why I saddened to say that Davinci Resolve 16 and 17 have failed to open this past week. I've tried doing a clean install, but as soon as I finish up the "quick setup/ tour" the program won't open. I've also tried updating my Nvidia drivers to no avail. I just got my new laptop yesterday,
it is a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3
AMD Ryzen 74800H
Nvidia GTX1650
8GB Ram

Davinci resolve 16 are able to run before i install a bunch of software,
(Photoshop, Premiere, After Effect, Some Games, and some Game required software like directX and C++,and also latest driver for GPU)

I am unable to launch Davinci Resolve 16.2.2 again, It show up the loading window until the "Looking for control Surface", and it show up "Davinci Resolve crash unexpectely"

@Isaiah: You sent us the CaptureLogs.bat file. You need to RUN that file, and send the file that generates on your Desktop.

But before you do that, you have the NVIDIA 461.09 driver installed. That's a bad driver. Install the previous 460.89 driver and see if that makes things better.

If not, then send us a proper Resolve log file.

But looking deeper into your NFO, the current issue is actually the Intel driver crashing Resolve.

Not sure where or how you got the 100.8681 Intel driver that's currently installed, maybe a Windows update. But go to the HP support site for your laptop and get the current 100.8189 Intel graphics driver that they have and install that. Hopefully that helps.

I'm having a problem starting Resolve Studio both 16&17 - they are both malfunctioning. It goes to Looking for control surface and just keeps there (I left it for 8 hours, nothing happened), and if i click on the screen it goes to unexpected end. It happened after I installed new AMD Driver, the old one was maybe more than a half year old and I can't get back to it because I'm not sure about the version anymore and what I tried didn't work. So I tried a lot of suggestions from the forum, before writing here.

What did I notice
1) If I block my dedicated graphics card (RX580) Resolve goes past the Looking for control surface, but ends on unsupported gpu (obviously, it goes through Intel UHD 630). So it looks like the graphic cards might be a problem but...

2) If i turn off the firewall Resolve ends instantly when it gets to looking for control surface. If I turn it on, it is stuck on looking for control, until I kill it with clicking on the screen and letting it go to unexpected end.

I get LoadLibrary failed with error 87: The parameter is incorrect

So I dont know what to do anymore except clean install of windows, which I can do, just trying to avoid it if its possible... Can you please take a look if you can find something in the logs?

I too am unable to do anything in the latest beta of Resolve 17 quite suddenly, after some work in the fusion tab.
Everything was fine until I needed to do some things with both the tracker and the planar tracker in the fusion tab, and then the whole world started melting down around me for some reason. Trackers weren't working - had to open a backup of a project file because the original project would not open - then all of a sudden zero projects can open. Definitely some probs happening with either the render cache or fusion cache and the way it interacts between fusion and edit tab etc.
I did a clean install of nvidea 460.89 and also uninstalled resolve and then reinstalled both the latest beta and also tried one beta before that. I was able to backup my project database but I can't open any projects right now.

What happens if you start a new project?

If that works, from the Project Manager page, Export one of the projects that is not loading, then Import it back in and see if that version works.

If that fails, send us that drp.

Thanks for the reply Dwaine. I did try the new project route, to see if I could get anything to open, but it would not go past the projects selecting screen.

Also tried renaming all my config .bak files that I could see to the primary config filenames in case they were corrupted.

Ended up uninstalling DR and manually deleting all those directories where DR gets installed etc. Did a fresh install. Then I was able to open all my projects (which I had backed up yay)

Still some crazy madness happening on the fusion tab when dealing with planar tracking and regular tracking. I've heard from youtubers etc that the fusion integration in DR is still quite novel and perilous - and therefore many people run fusion stuff in a standalone. Is that true? If so, is programming still happening in that area hopefully?

PS I did not backed up my project database after trying that new project experiment unfortunately so I can't share that.

I recently attempted to download Davinci Resolve 17 Beta onto my laptop, but all it does is open the loading page then immediately shut down. You have a very old NVIDIA driver installed. Go to the NVIDIA Driver Downloads site, select the Beta and Older Drivers link in the lower area.

Enter your GPU and OS info.

Download and install the 460.89 driver. Do NOT install the current 461.09 driver.

When you run the installer, select the Custom option and do a Clean install.

I have had Resolve installed on my laptop a few months ago and it was working fine. Ran in to some issues in December where the program did not want to start again.

I have since installed v16.2.7.010 and it is still not opening (I do see it running in the Task Manager).

@William: Need a Windows System Information .NFO file.

@David: You got lost in the long thread. Good you reposted.

Install 17b7, if you haven't already.

You have displays connected to the onboard graphics and to the GTX2080Ti card. All displays needed to be connected to the 2080Ti card.

Since it's an MSI mobo, there is of course Nahimic software running. That's known to often break Resolve. If the suggestions above don't help, then in Windows Task Manager, Startup tab, disable anything labeled Nahimic. Then reboot and see if Resolve will run.

If none of the above helps, send a new Resolve log and NFO file.

I had been struggling to update my windows as well. I sat most of today and fixed the Windows 20H2 update out (Updated all Drivers and installed the Update from windows site and installed it like that).

It looks like once I installed the Latest Windows 20H2 Update Resolve actually opened up. Was prompted to update Resolve. Will update to latest version and see if everything works now.

Once I have installed the DaVinci Resolve 16.2.8 version on my Windows Machine. It showed the Splash screen and then the Program was listed in the Task Manager.



I killed the task and reopened Resolve and all was working as intended.

Might have though it might be Windows that is creating the issue.

You have displays connected to both the RX460 GPU and an onboard graphics connector.

You'll need to connect both displays to the RX460 card, or disconnect the display from the onboard graphics connector.

You can use a different cable from that monitor, that has a connector that will plug into the RX480.

Or you can use a VGA to x adapter on the end of the cable, x being a port on the RX480.

Looks like your card has a full size HDMI port and 3 full size DisplayPorts.

You can use a DisplayPort to VGA adapter, like this:

Or if the HDMI port is free, an HDMI to VGA adapter.

I was working on a project and all of a sudden I got a windows warning that I am low on Disk space. I found that Resolve has created 21 Gbs of cache files. I deleted the cache folders went to the resolve preferences changed the cache folders in resolve saved the new settings then restarted my computer. When the computer was back up. I tried to start the resolve but the blue circle appeared and nothing happened. I uninstalled resolve 16 downloaded the resolve 17 but still the same issue.

Please help me, man! I would be really grateful to you!

Thank you so much for your reply. I have updated the link it is public now. I have also shared the NFO file. However, I have already installed a fresh copy of windows and then installed Resolve 17. Everything is working fine now. Moreover, the NFO file I just shared is created after the installation of the fresh copy of the windows and the Resolve 17. Maybe this file might not be of any use to you. Please, do let me know about the solution so that I can sort out the issue without going through the tedious process of reinstallation of everything on my PC.

It stopped working because your config.dat file was corrupt.

It lived in this folder:

C:\Users\Ali Hassan\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

It will still be in that folder, if you didn't change your User name when you reinstalled Windows.

We keep a config.dat.bak copy in that folder as well. It was still OK. So you could have solved the problem by copying that file to config.dat

If both files were corrupt (happens once in a while) then a clean Resolve re-install (what you basically did) will fix it. Or if you report the issue here with proper logs, I might be able to hand create a config.dat file for you.

My Davinci Resolve 17 was working perfectly until I did the latest Windows update last night. It gets stuck on the "Looking for control surface" while trying to boot up and then crashes. I tried all of Scott Fichter's possible fixes (unplugging USB devices etc), but they didn't work. Updated my drivers GeForce, but to no avail. Graphics: RTX 2070 Super WINDFORCE OC 3X 8G. Help would be greatly appreciated.

The crash is being caused because this file is apparently missing or damaged:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Skins\Fusion.fuskin

But I'd be very concerned about why this happened. Have never seen this before. If that file is missing or damaged, what else has happened?

Turns out that the file was missing. I can now open the Davinci Resolve app with the link you provided me, but now it takes up to a full minute to open the app when it used to take a couple of seconds. Now the playback on my timeline is extremely laggy/choppy to the point where it's almost unworkable. It use to be very smooth. Any idea what might be causing this?
