Beta 16 Stabilisation

PostMon Apr 08, 2019 11:07 pm

Tried it on poor handheld clip and the camera lock didn't. Neither does the overall stabilisation look particularly good.

Resolve's stabilization has never been particularly good, unless you're willing to do a lot of work with manual tracking to compensate for the deficiencies of the software. I smiled a little in the BMD video of DR16 when they showed the stabilization effect because I thought to myself "that must have been improved immensely over the version I'm using (15)" :-)

Remember that it is a beta and that some stuff will just be plain broken but I do have hopes that they've beefed up the stabilization a lot over 15.

I very much hope that the stability of the new version is the same as the stability of Premiere Pro. However, the stability of the new version has not improved. For a sharply shaken image, the distortion is very noticeable after using the stabilization effect. The same material is processed in the PR. It works very well. This is one of the reasons why I still can't delete Premiere Pro.

Is it because the DR stabilization doesn't correct for rolling shutter perhaps?

The head shot was filmed on my iPhone XS and the only movement as such was caused by my arms not able to hold the phone still for any length of time. In FCPX the stabilisation managed to get a gentle rolling movement - much better than achieved in the vaunted DR 16.
