Hi All
Having edited in FCPX, I got used to being able to zoom in, zoom out on the timeline, how can I do this on the cut page in DR16? Not sure...I can do it on the edit page, you can see the slider move with the command - and command + keys...but not in the cut page..is this just DR16 is beta public v1???

The cut page is designed for the 2 Timeline views. The top one shows the whole Timeline and the second one is a zoomed in view. If you want more control over the zoom it is probably best to work in the Edit tab.

Hi xunile,
Thank you, and yes, that functionality is in the edit page, I don't have an issue with that...I just feel that it is odd that as you create more than a few seconds, you cannot zoom to fit, zoom in/zoom out on the timeline...
The whole point of the mini timeline is to show the "zoom to fit" the whole timeline, so logically the zoom in/zoom out of the video timeline below should be a no-brainer....strange...

It looks more like an experimental version at the moment. When someone makes a suggestion, they should change it slowly.

Hi there,
Fully agree, then there should be a feedback page, I cannot right now access DR16, will check later if there is a feedback page.
Seems so obvious to me to be able to zoom in/zoom out of the video timeline in the cut page...as for it not being available in the beta does not make sense..something like this is just not left out...It is such a vital part of the editing workflow.

Given that you see the entire timeline up top, and a zoomed in view at the bottom, given that the point of having both views available at all times is to avoid the constant zooming in and out, I'm not sure I see the purpose of being able to zoom in/out on the bottom timeline.

Well in FCPX you don't have the mini-timeline, as in the DR16 cut page option, but you have zoom in/out..
The fact you cannot see a usefulness does not degrade or actually influence the decision, the fact you have this option one page over, it seems odd that it was not copy pasted onto the cut page strikes me as being a bit of an odd decision.
Have it one place and not both, for no extra code, very very strange decision..There is no zoom option in FCPX when in the clip browser-listview mode, not from 10.0 to 10.4.6...they never fixed that option, drives me nuts not being able to zoom around the playhead...or in listview mode.
This is just beta v1 and maybe it will be included after NAB, no question this is a great version, has a lot of great new toys to play with....

I don't think it is. Rather, I think you're missing the point of the new work flow.
I don't mean that as an argument against adding the capability, just that I get why it works as it now does.

HI there
I fully get the idea, the mini timeline, the new "source tape" idea, look the point is to speed up editing, not having zoom in/out slows done editing, maybe not for you, but it does for me.
I want to concentrate on one part of the edit, and the small mini timeline as nice as it is, is a bit of a pain, more hindrance than aid...maybe it is being old school, and being used to having to remember what I have edited...I like to zoom out a particular way, to see edits in relation to each other, project dependent....
I would be more than happy if they stuck this option as an on/off in settings, then everyone is happy,...to not include it, then move it, fine, happy..I cannot understand the idea of not wanting it...but anyway, it is new, V1 of many I hope....Thanks for the comments....Still a ways to go, NAB is still buzzing!!!

One of those additions that kinda feel more limiting than thought through. I get that there is the Edit page to do certain things and the cut page for others. But then both have features the other would benefit from immensely.
a) Zoomin in and out: I think it would be a good addition to have zooming in the Cut page (at least have zoom for certain stages). I often want to see more than the next 5 seconds when cutting stuff together, especially when trimming tings down in a long talking head video).
The mini timeline on top is helpful overall to see the progress so that's nice.
And the strange thing is that the Cut page features the "Lock Playhead in Center" but then the Edit page does not? Which by the way is the reason why I would want to use the Cut page in the first place.
At the moment these parts of Resolve feel like they are still in the beginning stages. Trying to be everything (audio, video, special effects, color, and editing…) but not really giving us better user interface flows.
With that I also hope that Blackmagic would start a `UserVoices` page that is not just like this forum but instead a site where users could vote on things and `BMD` can comment, give us a status update the way Adobe has been doing for a few years now.

2021 tuning in: DaVinci Resolve 17 has merged the CUT and EDIT page into one page, now called CUT. Given this merge, I can't seem to find a work around for this 2 Timeline view. Looking at keyboard shortcuts, there doesn't seem to be a way to zoom out from the bottom "zoomed in" view, that currently only displays a few seconds of the timeline. Am I insane? Desperately looking for input if anyone has thoughts!

The Edit Page is still there in Resolve 17.

No, that's not correct.

These "Why would you want to do THAT?" posts are so tiresome. If you can't understand why someone might want to view a 5-minute section of a 45-minute clip while they are working on it, then you might stop and consider that some people have more creativity and work in different ways.
These "Why would you want to do THAT?" posts are generally dismissive, belittling and not at all helpful to someone that's frustrated and trying to accomplish something. Better not to clog up the thread and just move on.
I'm with Justine. I was trying to zoom out in a 45 minute clip for a while and had to look up online why I couldn't do it from the Cut tab. Being able to do it on the Edit tab and not the Cut tab makes little sense. It's not like the feature doesn't exist.
I vote to allow zoom on all the timelines.

I wish it was resolved too. Came back here to say this. How many times am I expected to pick my mouse up when cutting clips out of a two hour recording?
Please make the timelines scalable.

A year after the last comment, and I came here looking for a way around this. The way media is accelerating, I'd really like to be able to see fine cuts of a frame or two, and the snap function isn't always lining things up nicely, for some reason.
Just don't see why adding this is such a problem!

Still wanting to see this feature both on the desktop and iPad version. Trimming long clips that extend past the viewable area is cumbersome.
I'm not sure why BlackMagic is so resistant to adding this simple thing. Every other editing software has it standard and obviously it's available on the Edit page.
