Shuttle Pro V2 and DaVinci Resolve 16

As I'm a small 'one man band' user I'm not sure I'll be able to spring for the Resolve keyboard when it's launched in August as a grand seems a pretty steep amount.

I'm on the verge of moving over from PremierePro for a lot of reasons but the new 'cut' page was just up my street.

So, I thought I'd fire up my Contour ShuttlePro V2 jog shuttle controller (that works flawlessly in Premiere) and see if I could map some buttons to the superb new features in the Cut page of Resolve 16.

Sadly though it seems BM must have blocked use of this device as even with specialist or global settings it just does not work. I'm pretty disappointed, and it's definitely a barrier to moving over as the shuttle is a superb piece of low-cost kit.

Does anyone have any workarounds, or confirmation that there's no way of using this inside Resolve 16?

Thanks.

I saw your post and got a bit worried, as I have a ShuttleXpress on one workstation and a Shuttle Pro V2 on the other. They both use the same driver. I don't have access to the v2 one at the moment but I did test the ShuttleXpress and it did work on Davinci Resolve 16, with a few notes.

First, as you stated that you are using Resolve for the first time, I do remember it taking a bit of work to get the shuttle to work, setting the keybind options in the driver, when I was setting it up with Resolve 15.

Also, I did have a moment of panic because the shuttle did not work at first after the update to DR 16. After a few minutes I realized that even though the timeline had focus, the shuttle was actually moving through the clip list instead of moving the play head. It wasn't until I clicked on the triangle at the top of the play head that the shuttle affected the timeline and then worked as expected. Not sure if this is because of the change in how the timeline works or just how the focus was when I started the application, but that may be the issue you are encountering.

No issues using a Shuttle Xpress with Resolve with V3 of the Shuttle driver software.

Thanks.

Managed to get it sorted (on the imac) but it took half a dozen uninstalls and re-installs. Pretty infuriating but thankfully it works :)

Problem was ensuring the Contour app had access in the 'privacy' settings in system preferences. All of which had to be done manually.

Gladly there was no 'block' by BM, just stupid install procedure because Contour can't get 'approved developer' status from. Apple.

Cheers for all the input.

I am on a PC and my Shuttle worked fine after installing 16 Studio from 15 Studio and I did nothing. I have the Shuttle programmed to work the same way on Resolve, Vegas and EDIUS that I use.

Ditto on this - Apple is making it increasingly more difficult to install third party apps 'cos they are trying to replicate the iOS closed shop model. It's gotten to the point where I spend excessive amounts of time getting past the flaky security model they impose - and that's only for Mojave. Haven't upgraded to Catalina yet but that's reportedly worse. After several attempts at installing the Shuttle Pro 2 drivers I eventually got it to work.

Can someone post how to “properly” install the Shuttle PRO v2 on MacOS Mojave?
I just got mine today and don’t want to mess up the installation on my iMac Pro....
Lastly some pointers on how one setup all the buttons.

For install details go to

and scroll to the end of the page.

The button setup is also covered. It depends on what buttons you want.

Here is my setup.

I'm new to Resolve. I have the ShuttleProv2, and I've installed the latest Windows 10 drivers, and imported the Davinci Resolve "DaVinci Resolve sv2.pref" into the shuttle control panel, and selected DaVinci Resolve as the active application.

From within DaVinci Resolve, the Shuttle has no effect.

I've looked in the manual and found Control Panel / Panel Sensitivity / Jog Shuttle, which are both set to 50. I don't find anything that tells Resolve to use a specific control panel, though.

What am I missing? How do I link the ShuttleProv2 so Resolve will respond to it?

The Contour devices operate as simple keystroke mapping, so check your Resolve keyboard customisation matches the Shuttle settings. I prefer to make my own Resolve Shuttle mapping.

QUESTION: Does the joogwheel of the Shuttle Pro work well with Resolve?

Note for BMD: I'm an unhappy purchaser of the DVR Editor Keyboard. I found it no practical, as it was occupating a lot of real state on my desktop, and the joogwheel is limited to 4-5 functions. Mastodontic hardware and poor software. It will be great a mini version, inspired in Loupedeck CT or Shuttle Pro, instead of copying vintage Sony designs of the early 90s. But please keeping the amazing Joogwheel piece of hardware on the Editor Keyboard, saw and drop the plastic keys to reduce the space and ease of use and make something ergonomical that fits in the palm of the hand, for 9-5 editors.

The jog works fine. One thing I like is I can have multiple mappings for different uses. I have one for the Edit Page and a different one for the Colour Page.

Shuttle Pro works great with Resolve. But I also like Fran's idea of a "half" or "mini" version of the Blackmagic keyboard - with a high quality jog wheel and all those "special" keys to help speed up editing.

Hey Peter. I have the Shuttle Pro V2 as well. I like how you have different mappings for the Edit and Color pages. How do you establish multiple mappings and how does Contour know which page you're on? Some help appreciated.

I use a shuttle express. Make alternate mappings in the shuttle preferences and enable the shuttle Finder menu option. You do need to switch manually but it's very quick.

I'm quite curious about this device. Do you genuinely find it speeds up or enhances your experience using the software?
I'm assuming its mainly useful for editing. How do you make use of it in the color page?

In the colour page I have the buttons mapped to grab stills, add serial node, step between clips, mark loop ranges etc. Anything I do frequently. I will re-map if a project requires other functions on a regular basis. Any function that has a Resolve keyboard shortcut can be mapped in the Contour Shuttle.

They are great because they work with a lot of different software like Adobe products too. The mapping switches when changing between apps.

+1 for my Shuttle Pro V2. I bought this thing many years ago and it is still quite relevant.

I just bought a Shuttle Pro V2 as the best "budget solution" I found.

Installed the Contour software as indicated in the manual (from the website). Came with a Resolve profile already built in and worked "out of the box" with Resolve on Windows 10 for me!

I do wish it had a slightly higher quality, slightly larger jog wheel. But for the price, its exactly what I'd expect. $99 USD at B&H.
