The adjustment layer was my most desired feature for Resolve. Unfortunately the functionality in its current implementation is fairly limited by not being able to apply transitions, or apply Fusion effects to the adjustment layer.

Also, would be nice to be able to apply the adjustment layer as a quasi-node so that adjustments for certain layers could be turned off and you could composite video behind an adjustment layer that has been scaled to less than 100%.

What I was hoping to eventually be able to do is build out effect templates in Fusion and then apply these as custom transitions, or A/B PIP transform templates.

Let's say you have two layers of different feeds: on bottom is a presentation, and on top is the footage of a guy giving the presentation. For the sake of this example, imagine each layer has multiple cuts between various angles.

If I add an adjustment layer on top of the presentation layer and keyframe an animation to scale it down, there is no way to show the clip below it in the background because everything is affected by the adjustment layer. There are two ways I can think of to resolve this. 1. put the presentation footage and the adjustment layer in a compound clip. 2. have an option in the adjustment layer settings to exclude certain layers from being affected by the adjustment layer.

Right now, if you embed an adjustment layer in a compound clip, it still affects clips below the compound clips in the main timeline rather than applying effects only inside the compound clip.

At that point, why not perform your keyframing on the presentation layer? I'm not trying to be rude, but that's not really what the adjustment layer is for, it's whole purpose is to uniformly apply effects to everything underneath it. It's kind of like trying to use a hammer to work as a screwdriver, it's simply the wrong tool for the job.

This kind of functionality is usually achieved by adjustment layer mask. Adjustment layers aren't exactly new concept. If one wants to apply it only to some layers, use compounds (precomps) with all the related problems.

I tried using a compound clip. The adjustment layer, which is inside of a compound clip, still affects layers below the compound clip. Is there a way to force it to precomp so that effects aren't passed through?

Edit: so the FX are not being passed through, thank goodness. It looks like using an adjustment layer in a compound clip flattens the layer and throws away transparency channel. ARG. But, on the bright side, I just realized that transparency channels have been improved for compound clips in 16b1, and I can now have multiple layers with a transparency layer. This will definitely help with what I'm trying to accomplish...

Did they ever add a fix to this? where u can select what layers are affected?

Adjustment Clips affect everything underneath. That's their nature and I wouldn't expect that to change.
