Native Color Space for DaVinci Resolve 16

PostFri Apr 26, 2019 1:20 pm

I have a HP Dreamcolor Monitor and would like to know which Color Space I should work in while I am in DaVinci Resolve?

My options on my monitor are:::

sRGB D65
sRGB D50
Adobe RGB
BT. 70nine (sorry when I type the number nine it gives me a 9)
BT 2020
DCI P3
Native

The color space to use on the monitor depends on the deliverable.
If you have to deliver a Rec.709 video then set your monitor to Rec.709, if DCI P3 set it to P3, etc.

I guess my question then is what is the default color space that resolve works in and can I change its settings so when I am in Color mode working on grading a video I know that the preview monitor is showing the proper colors. I know in photoshop I can setup a file with an AdobeRGB color space but if my mointor is set to SRGB and not Adobe the colors will be off

Look in the project settings chapter of the manual for timeline color management

If you later going to watch it on computer screens (youtube etc) then use sRGB D65. Other option would be Rec.709.

It depend.

If you use resolve color managed, you declare the timeline color space, if you don't, it is whatever you decide to do.

For example, if you have Alexa log c, and a lut at the end, you're implicitly in Alexa log c. If you have iPhone material, most likely you're in 709.

What matter is what you're targeting: if you want something for TV, setup the monitor for 709 and you're good.
