Project Backup in Collaborative Mode not working

PostTue May 07, 2019 6:40 am

This hasn't worked in 15 and still doesn't in 16. When you check the box for "Project Backup", it's unchecked the next time you open the tab and it doesn't do any backups. Combined with the sketchy "Live Save" (you DO lose work after some crashes in collaborative mode), the backup situation on project level remains less than ideal.

I just had one of my guy's whos working a multi-episode series and it went to autosave and then crashed. When he got back in his timeline was there but all the footage that he laid out was gone. When I tried to pull a backup it only pulled backups from April. So I don't know if that was before we went to collab mode for this series.

If this is a collab mode issue then I am going to have to turn it off on this project which is going to suck since by the end of an episode there are usually 2 guys working on this at the same time.

Just confirmed that Collab mode might be the issue. I shut off collab mode on the project and let it go through and do its autosave and after completing the first save I closed the project and pulled up backups and we now have a backup for it from today. I also have error logs showing that it wouldn't autosave because it was saying a duplicate file existed? Not sure what that is about.

Nothing like a little bump! Just had an editor accidentally 'cut' a timeline from a project. We've gone to the backups and to my horrror the auto backups havent been working since we turned the project onto colab mode.

We're using Resolve Studio 16.0.1 on Windows.

Has this been fixed in latest version?

Looks like we'll have to setup some SQL dumps....

I just discovered this issue as well. My team recently switched to collaboration mode at our studio.

Unfortunately we had a crash on one of our editor's machines and he lost about 2 hours of work. Surprisingly the live save had not saved any of his changes, but we were horrified to find no auto backups had been created for the project since we switched it to a collaborative project either.

This seems like a major flaw in the collaboration workflow. Any news on a fix for this?

We're now using this tool to dump and zip the entire database every hour:

https://sqlbackupandftp.com/

Additionally, we're turning off colab mode when not required

I'll say. We've had to stop using collaboration altogether because of this.

I love the collaboration features, but my team and I can't risk not having any backups.

Damn, this issue is SERIOUS.

I accidentally pressed Cmd+A instead of Cmd+S when working in a Color timeline.
Then I applied a grade> not to the shot I had selected but to ALL the clips.
That doesn’t undo, not even un a clip to clip basis…

Since it is a collaborative project, Project backups didn't work.
And Live save can't be turned off.
Last project export was lunchtime -I'll force myself to export backups manually often...

I’ve been a professional colorist for years, and I screwed it.
The odds of my assistants doing such a thing are even bigger, and imagine how I’d feel if they screw my job in such a lame way.
I love having my guys doing roto or sorting the next episodes of this series in the same project I'm already grading, but if that makes the workflow unreliable I'll have to give it a thought.

Collaborative is pretty buggy, feels like never updated since its amazing refinement for v14.
Same as Fusion, I'll just have to accept it's never been refined and it proves unreliable so I just son't use it.
What a pity.

I've been caught out multiple times in collaboration mode losing work and today it's happened again. I was working the 2nd machine and all my edits from yesterday has vanished so maybe Resolve was quit somehow without saving, who knows but from know on, I'll set an alarm on my phone for every hour and I'll save and export the project on the hour but any backup system that relies on memory (even memory to set the alarm) is a flawed system. When backing up manually you never do it as much as you think you do.

Still an issue with 18.0.3

Glad I caught it in time, wow, what a landmine. Every couple of projects I rely on this feature!

In order to temporarily "turn off colab mode," do you mean just going to the file menu and ticking Single User Project, thus unticking Multi User Collaboration? That's just a toggle you can move back and forth between?

Thanks for your insight! I know it's been a while since your post but this still seems to be an issue...
