encrypt_DCTL

what's that?? Is it what i think it is?

OK, it looks that we can encrypt DCTL with an expiration date and send to the client with no fear of having the code ripped apart...

good. good...

I guess for archival we have to set year 2100.... tried that, it works. but it shows only the end two digit of the date...

I guess we are now going to have people charging money for some DCTL code with 'special' and 'secret' sauces being hyped by them and others as creating an ARRI out of a sub-$1000 camera or that special super-secret film look DCTL that makes your movie into an instant Hollywood grade.

It's like creating the whole 'LUT magic' show all over again.

Luckily we have folks who make their DCTL code open source!

I think it is good to remember that Resolve would not run as it is right now without the software support from the open source community!

there are DCTL created in our facility that I will be reluctant to give away (intellectual property and such)....

just to avoid lawsuit...

i totaly get that..

somewhat off topic...

i worked closely with a DP's to create a look for a show that was provided to VFX vendors, the DP regarded it as exclusive, based on his vision and tests, and i had agreed to keep it aside and not use it for anyone else's shows, and i had, only to have the same lut re-appear a few years later with a project that had no known connection to the VFX house, the editor did not recall where he got it, only that he liked it and used it in the offline as it was closest he could find to what the director wanted.... so provided it to me as a refrence

the name of the lut had not even changed, still my naming convention <sigh>

i just chucked it out and started over

i can imagine if a complex DCTL that has significant work, specfic color science and resources applied to test and similar promises of keeping it intact was easly changed and appeared somewhere else with small tweaks and claims made of "magik looks" made.... encrypted makes alot of sense to me
