Waveforms - I can't see them

In certain projects on Resolve 16 Studio, I see the waveforms and then I do the equivalent of kicking the washing machine, by clicking all over the timeline until suddenly they appear. But there are other timelines where I can't see them no matter what I do. Is this an error? Also note that whenever you are doing multicam editing and you click the three buttons underneath the angles, you'll see the box that's just representing the cut you'll make without audio, and then the one with audio. If you click any of those the audio goes mute until you click the timeline and make a cut somewhere. It's an error in the software that's existed since Resolve 14.
