Cintel and 16mm scan export to DPX

PostThu May 23, 2019 8:58 am

We've just bought a Cintel II scanner and wondering if I could get some advice on the best workflow for exporting 16mm CRI scans to DPX cropped to the correct 2K resolution once scanned in Resolve?

Thank you.

Hi Ray,

You could use Resolve's transcode feature, which can let you do this at an earlier stage, but my personal preference is to simply select DPX as your rendered output type from the final Render page in Resolve, as such, you can save crop/sizing parameters into your project (as Edit page presets). For different film types, people usually have different Resolve projects (with sizing presets preset for the various different film types).

NOTE: With DPX often it's output into a Cineon Log colour space, to which you can use Resolve to easily render into. Just be mindful of this, as the default colour space of Cintel is not this, however is easily converted to this without any complications.

The timeline resolution is the usual way to target the final output rendered resolution, you can select this at point of Render as the targer resolution, as such, if everything looks good while previewing the timeline, that's how your final render will look.

Regards,

James
