Neat noise reduction v5 worth the upgrade?

PostFri May 31, 2019 6:56 am

I am considering upgrading to Neat Video v5 noise reduction.

Anyone upgraded and seen if it does a different job to v4? One thread suggest the processing is better (faster?) - I am more concerned with quality that speed.

Separate question, how does it compare to Resolve's noise reduction?

I doubt it'll get much better, but probably faster.

With careful tweaking the temporal NR in Resolve is getting really close. It is faster too, but Neat has the advantage of pretty easy configuration if you have a decent area for a sample to analyze.

I was reading in another post that there were issues with v5, some gpu leak or something. The OP was not recommending upgrade. That was about 2 weeks ago.

There apparently was some sort of issue when applying NV 5.0 to Multicam clips which caused poor results. Version 5.0.2 was released this morning, which may address this issue (the changelog on their site has not been updated from 5.0.0 yet, so I can't be certain)

I actually find the NR in Resolve to work better.

Possible. Advanced NR depends a lot on image content, motion and noise structure.
