GH5 file editing

PostSat Jun 01, 2019 12:02 pm

Can the paid-for versions of Resolve 15 or 16 edit GH5 files without first transcoding to Prores? The files I would like to edit are .mov 422 10 bit long GOP HD files at 100 mbps.
At the moment I have the free version of Resolve 15, which can't handle these files.

Many thanks for this info if anyone knows!

Studio does work with those, but depending on your hardware you may experience performance problems.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks for that reply, but I'm still not clear: is it only thebpaid-for versions of Resolve 15 orc16 which will handle the files. I have the Free version of 15, but it only plays the audio track of the imported clips, with the metadata saying the clip has no video.

Hi Uli, thanks for clarifying that: understood now it needs the paid version to handle those files. By the way, have you yourself actually used those GH5 file types in Studio?

I use DR 15 The full paid studio version and I can confirm that the GH5 file formats including the 10 bit files can be played, edited and work in DR 15 studio. However given the files are highly compressed playback and scrubbing performance may vary. My hardware handles thd files well.

yep, only the paid version will play the 10bit files from the GH5. Free will only play the audio.

Thanks everybody for the confirmation. Will reach into my pockets for the paid version. But far less painful than sitting around transcoding all day!

You’re gonna like it for other reasons too, I bet!
