There are a number of new videos for DaVinci Resolve inc editing, Fusion, Color grading and Fairlight audio on the BMD YouTube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCufB8s ... ScMjLz74YA

And the DaVinci Resolve training videos on our web page are now downloadable.

Just to point out that the file directories need sorting if you download them as they are copied from various sources. A training video on how to do this would be good :|

Thanks for allowing video downloads.

Just a note that on the training page for DaVinci Resolve 16, the project file associated with the "DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel" video tutorial is not correct. The project file linked is for the "The Art of Color Grading" tutorial.

Thanks again for the great support.

I'm new to Resolve and to video editing in general; you're training materials are much appreciated!

In addition to the videos you have downloadable books. I'm working through the 'Definitive Guide' now and have found a problem.

In Lesson 4, the exercises are based on a provided project: Age of Airplanes. Unfortunately, the project has apparently already had all the edits applied making it useless for its intended purpose.

Would you please pass this along to the appropriate people?

:)

I've been watching the "DaVinci Resolve 15 - Fairlight Audio Production" videos parts one and two on YouTube and I have some feedback.
It would be really useful if the keyboard and mouse keystrokes could be overlaid on the video to show what shortcuts are being used.

Not seeing the English DR 16 tutorial videos/files on the BMD site or on BMD youtube.

That's because we don't have any Resolve 16 tutorials yet.

All the current tutorials are Resolve 15 based at the moment.

I am not sure if this is what the confusion is coming from, but on Youtube there are Resolve 16 tutorials which are not in English.....

That's a very good point.

It appears we do have several Resolve 16 videos in various languages on YouTube. English not currently being one of those languages.

I'm not sure why the web site support area lacks reference to these new videos. Probably will be updated soon.

We did send out Twitter notifications of those videos, with links to them.

First of all, thank you for these fantastic products and software.
I've downloaded DaVinci Resolve and I'm following the videotutorial Fairlight Audio Production video (part 1), but unlike the video I can't see the "Respirator.." waveform (although I can ear it) in my project, I can only see the audioclip rectangle. Am I missing some setting or can I fix this someway?
Regards.

I'm using the set of books on this page w/Resolve 16. Of course they don't cover new features, but they work well.

At resolves pace of development no book, pdf or video will be ever up to date. There should be some kind of pdf template that could upload and substitute and/or update just the changes using color-coded pages to show the new stuff in the pdfs.

You're right about the pace of development! They've released a New Features Guide for Resolve 16 that's 85 pages long!

But regarding the training materials, I'd prefer they update the existing (excellent) books for each released version. My reasoning is that the differences have to be located in the old materials anyway, so why not just make the updates in place and end up with books that exactly match the release?

Hello Dwaine.

I think that if all the "what's new video" were put in a special page it will help many remember what's available in Davinci Resolve by version making it easier to find.

Just my 1Cent.

Downloaded everything on the training page (videos/books) realized it was 15 not 16.

Not really a biggy so far... BUT...
* when going through the books for best of practice/workflow,
it would be nice to have the new CUT page material available...

Hello, Has anyone figured out how to import the training material as a project so that you can edit along the video's? It can't be that hard?

Thank you.

Just download the project files by clicking the "Download Project File" under the training video and import them into Resolve using "import project" from the File drop down menu. The project files are the project.drp files. Once you have them in the media pool, just select the correct timeline and there you go. Hope that helps!

I really enjoy the training videos, overall they're great. However, sometimes there are things that they don't mention or explain how to do. For example, in the Fairlight Audio tutorial, the dialogue all has a really cool echo effect. However, they never mention it or explain how to do it. I found an "Echo" effect in the Audio FX portion of the Effects Library, but I'm having trouble emulating the effect found in the training video. It sounds similar but not quite accurate. Is there any supplemental material that explains this?

Byron, Thank you. I am not seeing a timeline in the imports, and I see a new problem, when I try extracting the files, its says the path name is too long on multiple files, so, it won't extract these files.
Thank you, Martin

Any plans soon for training on the Davinci Resolve Editing Keyboard?

Seems a fairly big learning curve, would appreciate training on the most effective way to use the keyboard if possible.

thanks

Yeah come on BMD.... I have a new Resolve Editor Keyboard and it's confusing the hell out of me (or at least surely failing big time to get the best use out of it!).

Yes, for the RTFM squad it's mentioned in there, but come on... BMD Japan have produced tutorial videos for the Editor Keyboard (using the same cookery demo footage from months ago) so where on earth are the English language ones?

We are seriously being unsupported over here....

I have not taken Ripple's course, however the above (a review, not a training) has some juicy how-to's strewn about on the BM Editing KB.

Good luck.

Thanks, I have that tutorial as it's an extra chapter to the existing course. Looks pretty good but still downright shocking that BMD can't be bothered to rationalise the Japanese training into English. Pretty poor support if you ask me.

Hi,
I hope you guys have a wonderful day..
I have a problem in importing the training material as a project to follow along the training video. After i've downloaded the training material and extracted it using winrar and imported the .drp file into Resolve all i've got is a red screen in the timeline section with a media offline warning on the main screen. I've tried using the same method using the other training files in hopes that there's something wrong that i do with the other one. But all i've got is still the same message.
Did i do something wrong?? Has anyone experience the same thing??
Thank you in advance for your help

Hopefully the remaining vids will be done soon. The "keys being pressed" overlay would be great as well, but I'm just grateful for what's available now.

Hey guys,

I have recently started working with Davinci Resolve 16 and I am really enjoying the PDF books on the Blackmagicdesign website. I have just finished with the book 'The Beginner’s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 16', however, the book on advanced editing is still based on Davinci Resolve 15.

So my question: 'Is the Advanced Editing book with Davinci Resolve 16 in the works and is there a projected release date for this?'

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Would love to see a Resolve certification course online somewhere similar to Arri's camera certification course on MZED Pro. Also Ollie Ketchington has a great course on color grading on MZED Pro. Few other good resources online.

Hi BMD,

I'm working through the beginner training videos and PDF and have a few issues:

Lesson 4, I can't see any audio waves on the imported files. I can work around this in the training but it would be a lot easier with them so hoping someone can advise if this is an issue with the import or something I may/may not have clicked to be able to see them in the timeline?

Lesson 5, it seems that the imported files have already been edited to finish so it is not possible to do the specific training. Hopefully these files can be correctly uploaded for future beginners to download and use resolve accordingly.

Many thanks, I love the resources available.

You will need to post more information regarding the missing waveforms. File formats etc and also have you enabled the waveform display?

Search the forum too, as this has come up many many times. Some complaints are hardware issues and some are users without knowledge of Resolve.

I have finished all of the DVR 16 training programs on the Blackmagic website other than the Advanced Editing training, which is the only training topic that has not yet been updated for Resolve 16. I am wondering if there are plans to update this anytime soon--or should I try using the DVR Advanced Editing pdf and project media for version 15.

Thanks,

I'd like to wholeheartedly recommend the new tutorial from Rippletraining by Alexis van Hurkman if you want to get your head around the new Resolve Color Management. Yes, it's not directly from BM and not free, but after all, he's the author of the manual too. Still on introductory discount, BTW.

New user here, just wanted to drop a thanks for the work on the training videos and reference manuals. It's a lot to digest, but I'm going through the material in a more-or-less methodical fashion and it's of enormous help. I'm especially thankful that you've made the project material available so I can follow along on my own system, there's no way to learn like actually following along.
