Reference sizing

PostFri Jun 21, 2019 11:55 pm

Hi all,

I'm working through the training guide for Color Correction with Resolve. Lesson 2 includes using reference sizing to change the size and position of a wipe image.

I'm working with the current Resolve 16 Beta, and it doesn't seem to be working at all. I hesitate to call it a bug, since it's the first time I've tried to use the tool.

As per the instructions in the guide, I'm selecting the clip to be graded, then right clicking on the clip to use as a reference, and selecting Wipe Timeline Clip. Then I'm going to the Sizing Palette and selecting Reference Sizing. Any changes I make to this panel are not made to the reference image (or any other image).

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,
Look in the manual (Help menu => Davinci Resolve Reference Manual): you do a search "Reference Sizing" and you will find what you are looking for on page 2364.

It is a good habit to take for the future. You will get a faster answer by finding yourself. :)

Hi Jean Claude,

Thanks so much for your reply! As it happens I did actually look through the reference manual before posting. I went back after reading your response, and I can't actually find where it addresses the issue I am having.

Could you point out to me where on page 2364 the answer to my question is?

Thanks again! Your time is much appreciated.

Best,

Hello,

Try to reproduce step by step:
Color Page
1- right click on the color viewer
2- on the TL right click on a thumbnail
3- The clip 'Wipe Timline' is surrounded by blue
4- You are active 'Image Wipe' (right if vertical, horizontal, etc.)
5- you can move with the mouse the separation between your clip and the image wipe
6- go to the 'Reference sizing' panel and look at the result in the Wipe Clip ... :)

Thanks, Jean Claude, but this doesn't work. Everything looks right, but the reference sizing controls do not have any effect.

Maybe it is a bug?

Just tested this and found that all works as expected EXCEPT when using Timeline reference mode. In this mode the wipe works but there is no resizing when adjusting the size controls.

Hi,
same here. When using Timeline (a clip in timeline) as reference, the sizing controls don't work.
I'm on a Mac.

Any workarounds?

I'm also on "Comparing and Matching Shots Manually" exercice p.42 on the excellent "Color Correction" DVR 16 exercices book and I've got the same issue. I've tried on two differents Macs.
I'll do without sizing.

I used a still as a workaround for this section, same idea though. It's super weird this hasn't been fixed. So would the only way you'd be able to resize a graded clip be through pulling it into reference so you can resize and also watch through the reference clip to note changes over time? Cause if you can't do it through time line, and Gallery is only a still then I don't know another option other than offline. Well I guess you could adjust it in the edit page of the clip you intend to reference but that would be kind of annoying too.

No change on 16.2.1.017; still no ability to change Reference Sizing when Wipe Timeline Clip is selected in a timeline.

The Gallery stills work with this feature when the viewer reference mode is changed to gallery, but when timeline is selected, the reference sizing controls have no effect on the image size.

DISASTER! 16.2.1.017 is NOT working properly, falling back to 16.1.2!

The grading interface on the color page "decouples" and no longer affects anything in the timeline.

Same here. This issue has existed in every version of Resolve 16 since the early betas.

Would love to see this fixed since I used to find the Reference Sizing with wipe timeline clip very useful and it saved me a lot of time.

Just tested on this configuration:

This is a confirmed bug still present on 16.1.2. A work around is to create a still and use that as a reference while performing this exercise. This has been acknowledged but the BM training staff.

Happy for the Mac user who this is no longer an issue for. But this is still not working for me on Windows 10 - DR 16.2.1

I've tested it out on two different windows machines. Everything works the way it's supposed to, but when I change the numbers (zoom, pan, tilt) nothing happens to either image.
