Jog wheel for selecting in/out points

PostFri Jun 28, 2019 2:17 pm

Good evening (o;

So far I used the mouse and left/right cursor keys to select the preferred in and out pints of a clip...

Is there to either use the scroll wheel of the mouse on a clip (besides only zooming in/out)?
Or even better, is there a jog wheel device which is compatible with DSR?

But maybe DRS doesn't support it al....

thanks in advance

there is several, and a new option arriveing in the fall
- Avid Artist Transport
- Contour Shuttle / shuttle mini
- Tangent elements Mf
- XKeys68

only the Mf is mapped by BMD, and not very well... the others you can map your self with greater sucess

BMD will be selling a $1,000 keyboard in the fall with a shuttle/jog incorprated

Shuttle min works well and is the least expensive, Artist Transport is the most flexiable, and also works well, Mf's shuttle is very basic and not all that usefull, no experience with XKeys68

Thanks for the list...though not many of those are available here in \.ch.

Just found a blog entry where someone was able to use the Logitech Craft keyboard with Davinci Resolve: https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/logitech-craft

This is also the keyboard I have...and the small wheel would be perfect just to move in the timeline...though not sure if it would work on macOS/Linux as well....

BMD keyboard is probably too expensive and maybe has no benefits in other media apps like Presonus Studio One....

Anyway...thanks for the pointers to have more a deeper look at :-)

The Shuttle Pro is probably the best value in this list. I have 2 of them on my main edit machines. Gives you much more than just jogging too.

The Advanced Panels also support jog/shuttle, and it's actually been more accurate in the last year or so than it's ever been. But those are a bit pricey.

At a much lower price (under $300), you can get the XKeys XK-68:

https://xkeys.com/xk68jsh.html

And several users have come up with Mac-compatible scripts to allow fairly decent jog/shuttle control on it with Resolve. Do a YouTube search for "XKeys Jog Resolve" and you'll find Skipper Martin's excellent video on how to do it.

In a few months, BMD will release an Editing Keyboard option for Resolve with an integrated jog/shuttle knob, but note that it'll be about $995.

Finally found a source with short delivery time...can pick it up on Monday across the border (o;
No availability here in \.ch

Just tried out my little 3DConnexion Spacemouse which I use for Blender....you can also assign events to it....

Surprisingly I can control with it under macOS the timeline with turn left/right and send in/out outpoint with the left/right button (o;

Okay..got myself the ShuttleXpress....not that many buttons as the Pro version...but works very well...and the five buttons are just enough for inset/outset, play for/backward and stop....

Haven't test it on Linux and Windows though...but expect same behaviour...

Maybe later I'll get me the Pro as well for the second workstation....
but for a beginner the ShuttleXpress is a very good and inexpensive entry device...

I Just tried my old spacemouse, and I'm very surprised at how well it works for jog/shuttle on the edit page. Now, if I can just get it to work on Fusion 3D cameras, and find a way to get my streamdeck to switch between 3DConnexion setups... I could imagine interesting applications on the color page, too.

I'm trying to use a Spacemouse as jog/shuttle. Could you share your config file or a link to more details about how to set it up? Thanks!

I also use a "SpaceMouse" with DVR. I solely use it as a second mouse. It gives me much finer control as I can adjust the sensitivity and block the non-dominant axis for vertical / horizontal controls with a button press. Also very useful with the color wheels or to pan in 5.1.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.
