Adding video transitions to text only

Hi, I have a problem that is driving me insane. How can I add a transition to just the TEXT layer? I want to make it fly in from the left like a powerpoint animation. Every time I add a transition to a text, it adds it to all the other layers below too, such as images and video. Thank you.

Are you on v16? Have you tried making the text a compound clip?

This works on V16 now without needing a compound clip.
Video on 1, Text on 2 and apply push or slide or even OFX transitions. All works on V16B4
