I don't know. Sometimes different parts of an app use different processing for these sorts of things, which may or may not be the case here, hence the word "depending".

Struggling to understand the extent of this problem.

If I overlay UHD Mp4 file with various Resolve titles or fusion titles I don't see any glitches. But the R15 Editing training video has the same fusion title over top of a prores file and it does produce glitches.

@ James Hope

Are the h.264 files you have trouble with in a MOV container?
If you use the built-in Resolve titles do your renders always have glitches?

Seriously weird.

No, they are in an mp4 container.

I've never used built-in titles, so I don't know. All the footage we're using comes from our control room, except where I tried the opener for one of our programs straight from the original rendered asset out of After Effects (the ProRes and H.264 files I referred to before).

Export to DNx and then encode that export to XDCAM.

I tried that but I have the same problem, the only way I can do it is encoding in AVID.

My only doubt is what DNx codec I should use for minimum loss

The source footage is not the cause of the problem.
Its the way the program encodes mxf xdcam.

Could you try the new DaVinci Resolve 16.1.1 please - it has some fixes in this area.

It seems to be fixed with my tests, which is good, because I much prefer using Resolve than Premiere Pro (getting tired of it).

I tested Greg's problem footage with 16.1.1, happy to report that the artifacts are gone.

Fixed for me as well in V16.1.1005. At last...
Thanks for the work BM guys!
And please try to double check possible issues with the delivery page. This is critical for us.
That issue was very vicious because it was difficult to detect and I almost delivered a faulty program to a broadcaster. By chance it did not happen but it was a big stress. And I had no other solution than using an other software to encode my program.

Bad news. The original problem seems to have solved, but in a preconformed EDL during some of the cross dissolve transitions other types of artifacts appear.

I resolve it exporting to DNxHD in resolve and exporting again in AVID, not a quick solution.

Can you make a simple project to illustrate the problem using two short clips which you can make available on Dropbox or Google Drive for others to try? If you can do that better chance of getting traction with BMD.

I wonder if this thread is essentially the same issue as this other thread:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=102888
Other thread has sample project to duplicate.

I haven't tried using my old MPEG-2 HDV footage in Resolve for quite some time but after reading this thread I gave it a try with 16.1.1 and it seems to work. I'm not saying there aren't any issues but at least now I can bring it in to a timeline which was not possible in the past.
