Resolve 16 Slower than 15 on brand new 5k Imac

PostFri Aug 09, 2019 6:38 am

I just upgraded from resolve 15(last version) studio to Resolve 16.0.0.060 studio today and I have noticed a considerable slow down in performance

An example of is when opening my current project there is a 2-3 second lag before the viewer refreshes and I can see the current shot that the timeline is set too. Switching from different places in the timeline takes forever to refresh and respond to any commands just to name a few.

Not sure why all of a sudden things are working so slow.

System Specs:
2019 5k Imac (brand new)
3.6 intel i9
64gig of ram
Vega 48 GB
OWC Envoy Pro HD (2500 mbs read write)

If anyone has any tips to improve performance let me know.

Also, Resolve crashes every time I try and quit the program. I have to do a force quit to get resolve to shut down.

I exported Logs to my desktop as a zip file. I'll attach the debug log. Hopefully that will help

I did a timeline render export last night from my current project I'm working on. Davinci Resolve 15 took 34min to render with full effects, speed ramps, noise reduction etc applyed to a 4:06min project. Davinci resolve 16 took 1:34:00 min to render.

That is a huge increase! Any idea why? Also I noticed that my timeline node renders took forever to complete after the upgrade.

Last Night I took 2 HD clips (1920x1080 60fps) and added them to a new project. Did basic color correction on both clips adding about 5 nodes total for each clip. The only node that was really "render heavy" was a node for noise reduction. I also turned on Dynamic Zoom on each clip for a slow push in.

With both clips in the timeline I went to the deliver tab and went to export individual clips using source names and quicktime h.264 (what they were originally captured with) and tried to export.

Normally in DR 15, Davinci would blaze through these clips in seconds but in DR 16 I gave up watching it after 15 minutes. I came back the next morning to find out that these two clips were still running 10 hours later. Something is seriously wrong in DR 16 for me. Please help.

Something to test:

Export your project from your current database. Create a new database from DR16. Then import that project. Now test speed and export.

I was having an issue and this fixed things for me.

Are you able to create a simple project with some test media you can share, and post a DRA (DaVinci Resolve Archive) so we can test the issue you are seeing? Please post your render times with this project so we can compare.
