Resolve Cache - Running out of space!

PostMon Aug 12, 2019 7:34 am

Hi!

My cache folder is growing fast and I am running out of HDD space on my laptop. I would like to clear it but I am mid-project and worried I'll lose my Gallery of Grades used in the project.

How safe is it to delete the Cache at this stage? Please help

You can delete using the Playback menu items but it will come back as you do your project unless you select Playback / Render / None from the menus.

Can I not select a diff location for Cache Files?

Can I not select an external drive?

Yes, you define all your locations in Resolve Preferences. The first drive location in the list of drives is used for the cache.

You can change the location of the cacheclip folder, but I don't know whether you can move the existing one to a new disk manually -- though it might be worth trying. Whether you can delete it without issue depends on whether or not you're making use of caching files....

In any case, Powergrades are not stored in the cacheclip folder. By default, they're in the "gallery" folder, whose location is specified in the Master project preferences. You can also change the path by clicking the 3 dots, when you're in the Powergrade panel.

George, I don’t think you can tell Resolve that you want to migrate your current Cache to the new drive, but if you copy it all to the new drive and the new drive is the first drive in your Resolve Preferences, Resolve might go there anyway looking for previous cache related to your active projects. Then you just delete the Cache in your old drive.

The gallery stills should be in a separate location (.gallery) from the caches unles you set them up to reside in the same place. You can safely delete the caches and the gallery stills will remain.
