Recorded at 60fps, matching up audio to video at 24fps

PostThu Aug 22, 2019 3:38 am

So I recorded some clips at 60fps and dropped it into a 24fps timeline, and the footage has audio that drops out approx halfway before the end to play at full speed, as expected. (24/60 = 40%)

How do I now sync the video to match the audio speed? I tried converting video to 250% (60/24) but it keeps affecting the speed of the audio even though I have them unlinked. I can't seem to delink them to change the speeds separately, assuming this is how I'm supposed to do it. Also, is there a batch way to do this instead of doing each clip separately?

"Right click on audio track and there is Change speed option.
You can adjust it by typing new fps. Untick Pitch correction though as it's not needed in your case (to small speed adjustment).
You may want to unlink audio and video before doing it. and untick Conform Lock."

So you first right click the clip, change clip attributes, frame rate to 24.
You will need to tick pitch correction in your case.
The key here is to untick Conform Lock on the audio track.

Hmmm, that sort of works, but the audio is out of sync.

I had this problem a few days ago, 60 fps -> 30 fps for slow motion.
My workaround was to:

Export the clip as audio only.
Un-link the original clip from it's audio and delete the audio.
Import the exported audio clip.
Change the clip speed of the audio clip.
Select the video and the audio clip and make it a compound clip so they stay together in editing.

I've done a number of forum/Google searches on how to make it work.
Couldn't find an answer.
So this is the work-around I used.

Seems there should be an easy, straight-forward way to do this.

Anyone?

The answer, it turns out, is easy.
Changing Clip Attributes is not the way to go.
Just change the clip speed.

60 fps clip -> 30 fps timeline for slow motion example:

Import 60 fps clip, say no to change project settings.
Drop the clip into the timeline.
Change clip speed, in this case 50%,
and check the Ripple Sequence box to expand the clip length.
Done.

Well, I changed clip settings back to 60fps, dropped into 24fps timeline, and now they miraculously work okay! Not sure what I did so badly wrong the first time, but now am relieved I got it right.

can this be done in the media management?
We have some BRAW footage that was recorded in 50FPS for a 25FPS project. But we need them in the required ProRes with the matching audio. Or is this clip by clip workflow?

Thanks
