Safe Area

Is there a way to create a custom Safe Area in this menu? I would like to set a 1:1 aspect ratio overlay.

No, there is not. We have asked for that for many years, to no avail. I would also like the ability to vary the level of the aspect overlay (say, from 10ire to 80ire), but apparently this is low on the list of Resolve issues to fix and add.

There is a DCTL floating around that will allow you to set custom values in the Safe Action reticle generator. I believe Joe D'Anna did one over on MixingLight.com; note that this is a pay site, but I think it's worth the fee involved.

There is limited control in the User Settings, Editing page. May not be what you need.

Sadly, those settings have nothing to do with the Safe Action Reticle display.

Strangely, they affect the Safe Action display on my setup. Unfortunately they have a lower limit of 70%.

Only the percentages of what Safe Action is. I'm talking about redrawable boxes that are movable all over the screen in custom increments. Generally what I get involved in is centering titles and other short lines, and you can't do it with the Safe Action display provided (not even in 1.33).

But you can do it with Joey D'Anna's free DCTL that I posted above. The other way to do it would be to use a custom PNG with the shape you want on it, then move it around as needed. But that's a lot of trouble and is slow and difficult when you're just trying to position objects or graphics. The Grid (which is a free Resolve OFX plug-in) can also help to a point.

Hello y'all,
we bypass this by creating png (transparent) overlays. not ideal, but it works nicely

best, and stay learning

thank you Peter, this is precisely what I was looking for [high Five]

Preferences/user/editing page/Use Custom Safe area overlays

I set mine to action 90% Title 75%

this helps for when the client simply throws work on social, at least the important messaging isn't cropped

best and thank you!
