Unable to import drp project -Free Resolve 16.0.0.060

PostTue Aug 27, 2019 3:20 am

Hey all,

First time post from a recent Adobe convert here.

I'm having some issues with importing project files for the purpose of moving across systems. The error message simply states " Failure! Failed to open archive! ". Here's some information regarding my system/project:

a. Both installations are Free version of Resolve v16.0.0.060
b. Both systems are Windows 10 with latest updates
c. The current Project is functioning and I'm able to access it. I'm attempting to import it into a new database.
d. The project was originally started in a beta version of 16.

Here are my questions:

1. Why am I unable to import the drp file?
2. Am I using the best method for moving across systems? *I need to be able to start a mobile project then move to a Desktop system, possibly back again.
3. How do I share my drp file? The upload attachment says the file is too large.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

put in a dropbox file and share the link.

If nobody can open it, chances are that is corrupt

Upon attempting to insert the share link I recieved the alert URLs aren't allowed in posts. How do I bypass this?

The poject file could be corrupt, but as I said, I'm able to access the active project from another system. So I can export as many project backup files as needed from the functioning project. Why would a project backup file from a functioning project be corrupt?

Does Resolve have known issues with exporting reliable project backups?

You can post a link by adding a space somewhere in the address.

But describe exactly what you're doing, to import the .drp into the other machine. You can drag and drop the .drp file directly into the project manager, using the OS, for example.

it might be a good time to backup your database - safety first if you cannot open a DRP it created
you could try to move the database to the new machine
you could try to export a DRP again
you could try to make a new project and import the timelines from the existing project, and then export a DRP

Ah! Here's the link:
https://www. dropbox.com/s/c0i3m0n88eu917t/Science%20Olympiad_MO_8.26.19.drp?dl=0

I tried to import the project with 2 methods: click and drag from Windows Explorer into the splash screen and File>Import Project.

"you could try to make a new project and import the timelines from the existing project, and then export a DRP"

I didn't know you could import individual timelines, I'll give this a try. I'll back up the database as well, thanks for these suggestions.

Can anyone verify if the exported Project backup is corrupted?

If a seemingly healthy Database/Project is exporting corrupted backups I have a line of questions to be sure.

Ultimately, I'm sold on Resolve and look forward to purchasing. I just want to understand as best I can to build a robust enough workflow to safety myself against whatever issues may exist.

I'm running Resolve Studio 16.2.8.005 on a 2019 MacPro right now and experienced the same issue - but perhaps I have a workaround. The .drp that I was unable to import was exported from the project manager. However if I open the original project and export the .drp from the file menu, I'm able to successfully import that project, rename it and open it. Hope this helps.

That project seems to be damaged. It doesn't crash DR on a Mac, but it tells me that it can't open the archive.
I don't get it why 'archive' and not project.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
