@Timothy: If you disconnect the external displays, does that have any effect?

@Lew Kien Seng: Have a look at this video, and follow the steps to make sure your system is using the NVIDIA graphics instead of the Intel graphics. Copy and paste this link into your browser. Clicking it in this post won't work:

Thanks for the info.
I actually made sure of that before I sought for help here.
Anyway, I solved the problem by changing the Window's power plan from power-saving plan to the normal plan.
Thanks, again.

Hi Dwaine,

Thank you, that does appear to have worked. When I use the laptop disconnected from the USB hub, Resolve works fine.

However, I'd really like to be able to do the video editing on the large screen, rather than my laptop screen. It did used to work and I haven't made any hardware changes since. Any suggestions please?

@Lew: Thanks for the update and detail about the power plan settings having an effect. We normally recommend you use a Performance Power plan for Resolve, but I was not aware that using the power saving plan could cause this sort of issue.

@Timothy: Are you using the Dell USB-C Mobile Adapter - DA300 to connect your display? Is there anything besides the display connected to the adapter? Can you just connect the display to the HDMI connector on the laptop?

Hi Dwaine,

I am using a Dell Universal Dock, D6000. To this dock I have my laptop connected via USB-C, my screen connected via a DisplayPort connection, a USB mouse, keyboard, microphone and webcam, and speakers via 3.5mm jack socket.

As I mentioned, I haven't updated or changed any hardware connected to the dock, so it's odd that I have been having issues recently.

As you suggested, I tried disconnecting the dock and connecting the monitor directly to the laptop via HDMI and that does work, thank you.

Hi Dwaine,

Similar issue as everyone else. Everything was working fine 10-days ago (came back from a work trip and a couple updates had installed). Now I have the same "audio but no video" going on.

I'm running Win 10 with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (Studio driver v456.71) on an ASUS VivoBook Pro 17

It appears that if I disconnect my laptop from the StarTech display port hub (connecting to two external monitors via DisplayPort adaptors) that it works on just the monitor display. But as soon as I reconnect my laptop to that hub it starts having issues again.

I'm trying to post URLs to my log file and NFO file but I get the response that I'm not allowed. I can email you the links if that helps as well.

Any assistance you can provider would be appreciated. I've upgraded/downgraded Resolve, etc and am really hoping you have a magic solution I haven't thought of yet.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Hi Dwaine,

I am having the same issue with content not showing up in the viewers. I've updated all my computers drivers, running a clean install on the GPU driver. Resolve is running off the dedicated GPU as well, to no avail!

If you remove the laptop from the dock, or whatever is providing the 4 "DisplayLink USB Device" objects in the System Information - Components - Display area, does that solve the issue?

Yes, this does resolve the issue. But it used to work without issue before I went on a business trip. Some updates were done while I was away and now it only works when the laptop is standalone.

I've tried updating ever type of driver, etc I can think of. Wasn't sure if you had any other options I haven't come across yet.

The issue seems to be popping up in multiple places. I'm not sure if it's a Resolve change or a Windows change, as I have no similar laptops here to test with.

I'm leaning more towards a graphics driver (or Windows in general) update as I took Resolve all the way back to 16.1 and the issue was still there. But when I rolled the driver back to the previous version (from earlier this year, Feb 2020 I believe) it worked again with the laptop hooked up to the dock.

And this only happens when Resolve is set to use CUDA (though the performance severely lags with OpenCL selected).

Ironically if I launch Resolve with the laptop OFF the dock and confirm the video preview loads and then connect it to the dock the preview continues to work until I close out of Resolve.

I've been using the free version of Davinci Resolve and recently it doesn't display the video. The edit mode play control doesn't work. I can see the audio clip but not the video. I've updated the graphics driver and BIOS on my Dell laptop but this hasn't helped. Just having the resolve open in the editor causes the CPU to ramp up. After closing Resolve, I can still see it active in the task manager and stressing the processor for a short time.

Hi Dwaine,

Me too. :-(

I was running the current stable version and had this issue, and have just updated to 16.3 beta to see if that would make a difference (it didn't).

I have solved my issue for now by downgrading to 16.2.6.

I also noticed I'm in the wrong thread as I'm using the Studio version. :-)

We can't help with a Mint issue. We only support RHEL/CentOS 7.x.

But you can post in the big Linux thread and see if anyone has suggestions:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=56878

You can generate a log from the Resolve Help menu, Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop.

Just to follow up here, in my case this was due to the update to 16.2.7 changing the minimum requirements for CUDA GPU (compute version 3.5). I had two cards in my system, one falling on each side of the minimum requirement line. I removed the older one and the problem is solved. Version 16.2.7 is now running ok.

Hello everyone
I also have the problem that the videos I import turn grey.
After a few minutes it starts to work, but it happens every time I import something. Even a jpg.
And also the tools take a few seconds to work.
The davinci resolves it doesn't work at all in this new PC that I built last week. I've tried several versions and supposedly all the drivers are up to date.
The strange thing is that I installed the macOS just to test if it worked and there it works 5 stars.
I leave here my log and information about my system.

We can't really support iMacs running Windows 10 in BootCamp mode.

But my one suggestion would be to use DDU and remove the Intel driver. That seems to be what's upsetting Resolve. Since the display is being driven by the AMD RX 5600 XT, it doesn't seem like removing the Intel driver should cause an issue, but since it's Bootcamp, I don't know.

DDU Description in this link:

Why would one run Resolve under Bootcamp? It is that much more reliable under MacOS!
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

I'm not using bootcamp
This must be taking over the iMac motherboard because I made Hackintosh just to test if it worked well davinci solves, and yes there it works

The NFO is all I can go by. And it shows this. I can't imagine how Windows System Information could display this if you really have an MSI motherboard.

But my suggestion remains the same.

Dwaine Maggart wrote:Not being an expert Fusion user, I needed some assistance myself to figure out what was going on with your comp.

When you have a MediaOut node on the Fusion page, it starts with MediaOut1. And by default, that feeds the Edit/Color processing path.

Additional MediaOut nodes are intended for use with mattes on the Color page. Each additional MediaOut number feeds the corresponding Source input on the Color page node tree.

If you right click in the Color page node tree area, and select "Add Source", you'll see additional node tree source's appear on the left. In your case, if you add 2 more sources, and hover the mouse over each source, you'll see the hover text tell you what's feeding that source. Source 1 and 2 will say "No Fusion Output". Source 3 will say MediaOut3. So to solve your issue, connect the node in the node tree to source 3, instead of 1.

Or, on the Fusion page, if you select the MediaOut3 node, you'll see it has an Index value of 2. If you change that Index value to 0, that will make your comp output appear on the first source on the Color Page node tree.

I'm not sure from a "proper Fusion practice" perspective which is the better approach, but either should solve your issue.

Edit: It appears the best practices way would be to rename the node to MediaOut1, and set the Index from 2 back to 0.

I assume you have a MediaOut3 node, because you were messing with MediaOut nodes earlier, and deleted MediaOut1 and 2.

I just want to say. THANK YOU!

I was pulling my hair out as to why I was getting no video into the color tab when the fusion clip was so clearly feedint stuff into media out...

Let's hope this becomes waaaaaay more intuitive in the future. Because guessing that MediaOut has to be named MediaOut1 and Index has to be set to zero in order for anything to show up at source 1 at the color tab... How in the heck was I supposed to find out that? Because that's some 1990's era Point and Click Adventure Moon-logic right there. Especially since I did not actively change the index myself... some other thing did that. And in my trials I tried replacing the Media Out node in desperation to see if it defaulted back to correct settings.

Anyway. I just had to give thanks in this one here thread. Because I could not find anything as I was googling around to find out what I was doing "wrong".

Your 451.67 NVIDIA driver is too old.

Download and install the 460.89 driver from the NVIDIA Driver Downloads site, and when you run the installer, select the Custom option and do a Clean install.

DO NOT USE the current 461.09 NVIDIA driver.

Re: No Video Playback/Preview in Resolve 16 (Free Version)

Hello!

I have the same problem: audio ok, but no preview. It´s really frustrating.

I´ve already updated the Nvidia driver (the 460.89), and updated the VGA.

I´ve also attached the system log and resolve log.

Please help me! :)

You need to move your display from the onboard graphics port, to the GT1030 card. Any displays you want to connect, need to be connected to the GT1030 card.

Hi,

I'm not being able to see the video preview as all other on this topic.
I'm using DaVinciResolve 16 and it was working fine until I formated my computer so maybe I unistalled something necessary for it to properly work. Can somebody help me? The links to log file and system info file are below.
Thank you in advance!

@Bruno: I'm having trouble figuring out your Lenovo T540 system.

Can you tell me if there is a GTX 1650 graphics card installed in one of the PCIe slots? I can't tell if the GTX 1650 graphics is built into the motherboard (it sort of looks that way) or if it's a separate card.

The issue with Resolve is that it sees your display as being driven by the Intel UHD 630 iGPU, and not the GTX 1650. The normal solution to that on a desktop system would be to move the display from the motherboard graphics port to the GTX 1650 card. So if you have a GTX 1650 card installed in a PCIe slot, do that.

If the GTX 1650 graphics is built into the motherboard, then you'll need to find a different way to configure the graphics. It's possible there is a BIOS setting for that. Or you may be able to select the graphics mode in the NVIDIA Control Panel App (if that's installed) in the Manage 3D Settings area.

Hi @Dwayne,

Thank you for your help. I don't understand anything about computers so can you tell me how to check if the GTX 1650 graphics is built into the motherboard or if it's a separate card? I don't know if this helps but this is a standard lenovo desktop that I havent modified in anyway whatsoever.

If it is a separate card, how do I move the display from the motherboard graphics port to the GTX 1650 card?

If it's buit into the motherboard, I'm not being able to acces the 3D Settings. I installed the NVIDIA Control Panel App but when I run it it says "“You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU”.

Sorry for the trouble but, as I said, I don't understand anything about computers.

Thank you for your time and help, in advance!

Is there any other connector for monitors on your computer, like DVI or HDMI?
The message clearly says that your display is not connected to the Nvidia, and that may be exactly the reason for your problem, as described by Dwaine.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Hello, I have the same problem. Even video thumbnails cannot load, everything is greyed out, unable to playback. Resolve was working perfectly a few months ago, I don't know what happened.

Please ask if you need any more info! Thank you

There are no obvious issues in the logs.

What AMD driver are you using?

Please send a project export .drp of your (New Folder) project.

AMD Driver Version 20.12.1

After a long wait, eventually it loads in and I am able to edit (though very poorly with bad frames and stuttering, etc) for a few minutes before everything goes grey and becomes uneditable.

To be more specific, a couple months ago Resolve worked like butter, but now it runs poorly compared to before.

@Bruno: Send a picture of the rear of your computer.

@Kylie: Things that work fine one day, and poorly the next, are generally caused by some sort of change to the system. In the case of a Windows system, that is often a Windows update.

Just to verify, the (New Folder) project also shows the issues you mention?

If you go into Resolve Preferences - User - Playback Settings and enable "Hide UI Overlays", and save the prefs, does that have any impact on the playback?
