No Video Playback/Preview in Resolve 16 (Free Version)

I am currently experiencing the same problem. I just updated to the Davinci Resolve 16 yesterday and this happened.

The photo shows the two black displays where I can't see the preview of any videos !

Remove the display from the onboard video connector. If you want both displays, connect them both to the GTX1050Ti.

Can't I leave the monitors connected to the computer as is?

I currently can't connect both monitors to the GPU, thus can I leave as is and still get a preview for my edit?

If not this is very sad news as this was available in Davinci Resolve 15.

Can you try it, and see if it fixes the issue?

I am having the same issue as Albertocv above. When I drag the video to the timeline, the video flashes for an instant in the preview window but then goes black. When I play, I hear the audio, but can't see preview video.

My System Information is attached. You'll note that I have two screens connected to the motherboard, one to the video card. Regardless of which screen I try the preview in, it doesn't work.

FYI I just solved this. I did the following things:

Uninstalled and reinstalled Davinci.

Moved ALL monitor cables to my graphics card, and restarted computer.

I am having the same exact problem and i am not good at all with computers i have downloaded all the drives that were listed and i tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I just dont understand it worked on my other pc. And that one had worse specs than mine does now.

We can't help without information from your system.

We need a Resolve log file and a Windows System Information .NFO file.

when i got to add the attachments i get an error that says the extension txt is not allowed and The extension nfo is not aloowed

Same problem here, but an odd setup: 2011 MacBook Pro 17" (integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 & discreet AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPUs).

I'd like to use the MacBook Pro 17" screen, and an external nVidia (vGeForce GTX 1070) Sonnet eGPU Breakaway for CUDA processing through Thunderbolt 1/2 to Thunderbolt 3 Apple adapter. Installed both: https://github.com/mayankk2308/purge-wrangler; https://github.com/mayankk2308/set-egpu.

Using the latest nVidia web driver 440.89 (GPU Driver Version: 387.10.10.10.40.133). nVidia eGPU works great on other apps. But Resolve does not show clip in preview window with nVidia eGPU selected in Resolve GPU preferences panel. However, if the MacBook Pro 17 is connected to an external monitor through the Thunderbolt port (removing the eGPU option), then Resolve uses the discreet AMD Radeon HD 6770M and DOES playback in preview window.

Bottom line request: can Resolve use the eGPU while running the preview through internal screen.

I can’t imagine how a TB 3 GPU can work on a TB 1 connection to a 2011 computer. I’d recommend a computer made in the last couple of years and current OS. Sorry to bring bad but realistic news.

Thanks for taking a look at my post. Well, please do try imagine : OSX 10.13.6 is the last OS to support CUDA. As for the Mac, it works OK. There's no power-user here, so TB3 to TB1 bandwidth is OK on very lo-res footage. Just need a stable environment to write OFX Resolve plugins. I was wondering if Resolve preview panel might work if an external monitor were connected to the nVidia directly.

Perhaps there's a alternative forum better suited to my queries?

is this done in davinci itself or another program im sorry but your going to have to dummy this stuff down for me because im not good with computers at all

Pull the cable and connect it to the card.

Having issues as well with no video on my preview screen, only have audio.

Checked my system information which seems ok.

The ASUS manual for your GL704GV has no detailed info on the available BIOS settings.

Look in the Advanced area of the BIOS for something related to Internal Graphics mode, and set it to IGFX instead of PEG/PCI, or something like that.

And/or, if you have an external display connected, what happens if you remove that?

Still doenst work. Opened up my Advance Area of BIOS but cant find anything in the internal Graphics mode to change the setting. Am I missing something?

Seems like the video shows when its in Fusion / Fairlight but not in the editing areas.

@Dale: Log still shows an issue with the GPU. If you can send a Windows System Information .NFO file, that could be helpful.

@Taiaha: You have a very old NVIDIA driver installed.

Likely the reason the driver links you tried failed, is because they are for current 10 and 20 series GeForce cards. You have a 750Ti card, so you need to install the current driver for that and see how that works.

Go to the NVIDIA Driver Download site and enter the info your GPU, and install that driver.

If you still have issues, send another NFO file, along with a Resolve log file.

Same here. Installed 16.2 o my surface pro 3 no video and no playback. just black frames. Previous version worked fine.

As you can see in the screen shot, windows explorer shows braw thumbnails, but not Resolve.
Premiere plays them properly too.

Is the issue only with BRAW files? Do other file types work?

If you put a SMPTE Color Bar Generator on a timeline in the Edit page, and make that clip a Compound clip, do you see that in the viewer?

No the issue is universal. mov, jpg, braw nothing shows up. no generators either, smtp, gradients etc, nested or not.

You've got a very old (2017) GPU driver installed.

Paul describes a solution in the middle of the thread. That seems like a good thing for you to try.

So I followed the procedure: Downgraded to basic driver though intel Support Assistant stated I had latest driver, downloaded manually latest driver installed, rebooted, and again Resolve 16.2 is black...

I too have no video in the preview window. I have read this thread but there is no solution present for my PC..

I have a Radeon RX 5700 XT video card. Nvidia drivers at not going to help..

I am an Adobe Premier Pro user keen to try out Resolve.. I have just run it for the first time today, and THIS issue appeared. Yikes.

That finally did the trick!
Initially i uninstalled and tried previous versions, with no results either,
but the moment i disabled open cl all media showed up.
So it seems resolve does not work with Intel GPU as stated, and only in CPU mode.

Can you see my problem here pls

@Shane: I'm guessing you have an external display connected. If so, disconnect it. Does Resolve work now?

If you don't have a display connected, or disconnecting it doesn't help, send another Resolve log and also send a Windows System Information .NFO file.
