Shadows in Colorspace transform generated LUT different

PostThu Aug 29, 2019 5:02 pm

Good Morning Guys,

Got a new one for the forum...one of our delivery requirements was to include a .cube lutof the color transformation from Resolve. When we generate the .cube and test it alongside our ofx node we notice that the LUTs shadows value is slightly higher. Does anyone know how to fix this?

LUTs are imprecise things. I wonder if you're simply seeing an unavoidable translation error.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If it is just a little bit, that's imprecision.

In the setting, do you have "trilinear" or "tetrahedral" selected?
The latter is a bit bette.

I just requested that a lut from resolve can be exported at 65x side, that can improve the precision.

Hey Walter,

When I right click the timeline and hit “generate 3D lut” it doesn’t give me an option to do so. Where does that option live?

That's not for generating but fire reviewing.

Setting, color page, at the end of the page

Ah! Of course. That gets us closer however it’s still slightly
different.

Ugh. Hating these new delivery requirements. “When you state you need a LUT, you never said it has to be a .cube file.”

At this point I’m just thinking about giving them the transform in a .drx and calling it a day. I’m surprised I’m not seeing more people complaining about this.

You cannot load a drx in a camera...

Walter the delivery LUT is for archival. Not anything camera related.

Does not matter much, a lut can be open from a plethora of different software and it will give similar end result.

A drx has only one destination.

When w did the last jedi, we provided a nuke script worth color science (luts) for every single deliverable to be able to build all the 40+ languages automatically.
